Social media is in a weird place right now, so there’s no better time than now to go back to the basics. No matter what happens on a social platform, you can move anywhere if you’re confident in your personal brand.

While interviewing for Social Proof, our series about personal branding, each person highlighted some important points that I’ve summarized into six golden rules. Each should act as a guideline for understanding and communicating your personal brand.

• “Dive deep into one channel before exploring multiple.” Katelyn Bourgoin
• “Have a distinct online presence outside your employer.” Fadeke Adegbuyi
• “Treat every project you undertake as a vehicle for your personal brand.” Steph Smith
• “Outline your future self and then work towards being that person.” Shaan Puri
• “Love what you do or risk failure.” Jack Appleby
• “Remember that it takes time and patience to be successful.” Tori Dunlap

And the final, secret seventh rule is to do what works for you. No one understands you better than, well, you. What truly matters is understanding how you work and what it will take to keep you consistent enough that you can build a lasting personal brand.

Use the caption to give more info on your products and direct viewers to your Start Page in your link in bio to purchase. Here’s a great example from @happilyhandmadeclay!
