I asked ChatGPT about building in public and here's what came out 🤯
⚡️ A QUICK NOTE ABOUT OUR FEATURED SPONSOR ⚡️Thanks to this week’s featured sponsor: Montaigne. You all know how much I love building fun projects and website with no-code tools. Over the last few years, I built and launched over 15 no-code projects.. so I’ve seen a fair share of tools. Today’s tool is so unique, minimalistic and edgy .. that I was intrigued instantly. Especially as someone who has tons and tons of ideas and notes buried in my Apple Notes app. Well, now you can build a website, blog, or portfolio using nothing but just Apple Notes. No more excuses to not have a blog or a website. Montaigne takes your Apple Notes content and publishes it online. Check it out here. 🤯 Like many of you on Twitter,I’ve been fascinated by the media coverage and hype around this new breakthrough in OpenAI called ChatGPT. However, I haven’t played with it myself until last night. I sat down to come up with an essay for this newsletter and wondered if I could just test ChatGPT and see what it’ll come up with. So here’s the prompt I used and below is the answer it came up with: [in quotes] PROMPT: Write a brief article on why building in public is better than building in stealth“Building in public is the practice of openly sharing the process and progress of a project with the public, typically through social media and other online platforms. In contrast, building in stealth refers to the practice of keeping a project secret, often until it is fully completed or ready for launch. There are several reasons why building in public is generally considered to be better than building in stealth. For one, building in public can help create a sense of community around a project. By sharing updates and soliciting feedback, creators can engage with others who are interested in their work, and can even attract potential collaborators or business opportunities. Additionally, building in public can be a valuable way to gather feedback and ideas from others. By openly sharing progress on a project, creators can solicit input and suggestions from a wider audience, which can help improve the final product. This can be especially useful for projects that are still in the early stages, as it can help guide the direction and development of the project. Building in public can also be a great way to build credibility and establish thought leadership in a particular field or industry. By openly sharing the process and progress of a project, creators can demonstrate their expertise and knowledge, and can even attract potential collaborators or business opportunities. In contrast, building in stealth can often lead to missed opportunities and lack of support. By keeping a project secret, creators may miss out on valuable feedback and ideas from others, and may struggle to build a supportive network or audience. Additionally, building in stealth can often create skepticism or mistrust, as people may wonder what the creator is hiding or trying to avoid. Overall, building in public is generally considered to be a better approach than building in stealth. By openly sharing the process and progress of a project, creators can engage with a community, gather valuable feedback, and establish thought leadership. In contrast, building in stealth can often lead to missed opportunities and lack of support.” *** OK, I have to confess that the above article was 100x better than I had expected and frankly both stunning and also scary on how compelling the write-up was. It’s so so close to what I would have said about this topic. It feels like we’ve hit an inflection point .. similar to how I felt about no-code a few years ago where it suddenly empowered millions of new ideas to come to life by lowering the barrier to code. OpenAI (and ChatGPT etc) are about to do that but for so many other creative vocations like writing and painting. THE MAIN TAKEAWAY:When anyone can now create content with the help of AI, we will see a Cambrian explosion of new newsletters, Twitter accounts, niche websites etc. The world of content is about to see 100x or even 1000x more noise and it’ll be hard to stand out just by consistency alone. Because AI can outcompete you in that regard. The only edge I see? Vulnerability and authentic storytelling The only way to stand out is by choosing to share the imperfect parts of your journey, the scary bits, the human messy parts, anecdotes you’d share with your close friends.. and build trust with your audience deeply. Which means more screenshots, more behind-the-scenes content, more building in public. It requires showing a bit more skin than normal. You have to be more vulnerable than previously. Only then, people will resonate with your content and stand by you.. otherwise your work has a great risk to be ignored like we detect and ignore automated spam calls. What are your thoughts on the future with AI? Bullish or bearish? What is ChatGPT and why this is a big deal?ChatGPT is, quite simply, the best artificial intelligence chatbot ever released to the general public. It was built by OpenAI, the San Francisco A.I. company that is also responsible for tools like GPT-3 and DALL-E 2, the breakthrough image generator that came out this year. Read more about it here. Oh, and I’ve used the same OpenAI technology to generate a cover art for this newsletter edition too. See the prompt I used below and the image that DALL·E 2 created. Once again, I am in awe 🤯
