9 stunning images from Mars missions in 2022

With eyes on the Red Planet from nearly every angle, we’re learning more about Mars than at any time in history.

Orbiters, rovers, and other spacecraft documented countless Mars oddities this year. Some were tiny and dug up from the dust, while others were miles-long geological formations observed from above.

Glass Onion’s biggest celebrity cameos, explained

Director Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is packed to the gills with famous faces.

THE GUTTER Marvel

Avengers: Kang Dynasty could be Marvel’s most unpredictable movie yet

Since his first appearance, Kang the Conqueror has consistently been one of the greatest threats the Avengers have ever faced, are facing, and will face. He is constant. And in 2023, he makes his official debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Thanos will be a hard villain to top, but Kang will test the Avengers in new ways as he poses a threat not just to one universe, but all of them. The character’s comic book history is complicated, to put it mildly.

FROGGER Science

These frogs can become “invisible” and scientists just figured out their secret

What if you had the power of invisibility, but it only works when you’re asleep? That might be useful for a surreptitious nap in public, but it still probably wouldn’t suit you as well as it does the Northern glass frog.

The Hyalinobatrachium fleischmanni, native to humid forests throughout Central and South America, has this dubious superpower. It’s just one of more than 100 species of glass frogs that are so-called because of their translucent skin and organs.

Now, we know how they accomplish this vanishing act thanks to a paper published in the journal Science. Northern glass frogs, and likely other species of glass frogs, can achieve quasi-invisibility through a physiological act that’s even more impressive than disappearing itself.
