Voters who sent George Santos to Congress are stuck with him

Your vote counts, the adage goes.

But once all the ballots are cast, it’s impossible to undo the results – even if when someone like Rep. George Santos gets elected.

Santos appears to have lied about many facets of his life, both big and small, from his family’s being Holocaust survivors to his educational and professional background.

Still, as constitutional law scholar Jonathan Entin writes, lying isn’t illegal – and it isn’t an offense that could give voters any recourse if they now regret their decision to elect Santos.

“There is no federal recall law that could lead to the removal of someone like Santos from Congress,” Entin explains. In today’s top story, he explores the different measures that could lead to Santos’ stepping down or being forced out – and why voters will probably have to wait until 2024 to weigh in on the situation.

This week we also liked articles about the debt ceiling, AI tools like ChatGPT and California’s Salton Sea.
