🍿 Gerard Butler is flattered to be called “King of the B-Movie”

Jan. 12, 2023

Close your eyes and picture an action-packed B-movie. What do you see? Bullets. Explosions. Probably a memorably goofy catchphrase. And at the center of it all? Gerard Butler.

From the Has Fallen franchise to Greenland, the Scottish actor has established himself as Hollywood’s go-to leading man for Blockbuster movies that Liam Neeson wouldn’t touch. Or, to quote the man himself when Inverse brought up his penchant for B-movies: “I think I’m like the king of the A-minus movie! I'd never heard that before, and now I feel complimented and at the same time, humiliated.” (Fun fact, Inverse editor Hoai-Tran Bui tells me Butler’s chair broke right as she asked that question. We’ll chalk that one up to coincidence.)

Read on for our full interview with Butler all about his new action movie Plane, his upcoming sequel Den of Thieves 2, and more. Plus everything else in today’s edition of Inverse Daily.

THE INVERSE INTERVIEW
Gerard Butler is flattered to be called “King of the B-Movie”

In Plane, Gerard Butler takes the controls.

Inverse spoke with Butler about taking the controls for Plane (on which he’s a producer), how they pulled off the film’s one-take fight scenes, and what we can expect for one of his most anticipated B-movie sequels, Den of Thieves.

Webb Telescope just found its first exoplanet

Earth has a rocky twin orbiting a dim red star 41 light years away — but it may turn out to be a hot hellworld more like Venus.

Exoplanet LH 475b has a radius about 99 percent the size of Earth’s, but that rocky radius is surrounded by either a choking atmosphere of carbon dioxide — or the vacuum of space, according to recent observations with the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). But it’s definitely a planet, and that’s something astronomers couldn’t say for sure until now.

CRITICAL HIT?
Paramount's 'Dungeons and Dragons' show won't connect to the movie

Paramount is rolling the dice on Dungeons & Dragons, both in theaters and now on Paramount+. But exactly what plans are laid out behind Paramount’s DM screen?

On Tuesday, Deadline reported Paramount+ will be the home of a live-action TV series based on Dungeons & Dragons, the popular fantasy role-playing game. The untitled series, first reported on in 2022, has a straight-to-series order for eight episodes.

A source tells Inverse the show does not share a universe with the upcoming movie, but future crossovers haven’t been ruled out.
