We are specks of dust in the grand landscape of our universe. 

The art of Alvaro Serpa captures our human experience with the unknown sky in vibrant colors of a, almost exclusively, setting sun. With the faceless, obscured silhouette of the subjects, we’re able to imprint ourselves into the settings that are familiar to many of us as they are fundamentally human moments. 

Alvaro paints intimate settings of isolation and togetherness the same. The relationship is either with the sky, universe, or with another traveler on this bizarre road of life. 

This relationship with a sunset is on full display with its personification in i talk to sunset about you. The longing for connection with someone missing from our lives is something everyone relates to. We talk to others about those we miss. We tell stories about them to keep their memory alive or to keep them with us when they are away. And when we are alone? We tell the sunset about them. 

Only 21 and still a student perfecting his craft, “I am currently studying Bachelor of Arts and Design at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora and I love my course, I intend to pursue a career in visual arts and with NFT, it's risky, but it's my dream, to live from my dreams.”

“I've been trying to create narratives closer to Brazilian daily life, but I create scenarios for people all over the world. Romance is always present, whether as pain or as love. I like the intensity of the sunset and the unique and indescribable feeling that it is to see a sunset. I am privileged to have a window in my room that has an excellent landscape but let's be clear, I'm low income (for now).”

It’s hard to imagine Alvaro reaching even greater heights than he already has. But, just as he and his art remind us, the sky is limitless.
