Evan Woodard speaking at Black Acres Roastery

Finding these small items allows us to build a bigger picture of who lived there.”

Some of us baked sourdough during the pandemic lockdowns. Evan Woodard became a relic hunter. He digs through the literal rubbish bins of Baltimore history: household privies and other trash pits where ceramics, jewelry, and even firearms have been discarded and lost to time.
Woodard works backwards from these objects to trace forgotten histories, overlaying archival maps, land deeds, and material histories to investigate who might have lived at the time and how they might have held these treasures. Watch Evan Woodard’s engrossing talk for CreativeMornings/Baltimore and imagine the stories of the people who once stood where you are now.
