Inverse - 🎮 'Hi-Fi Rush' Is an Instant Classic

Feb. 3, 2023

Video games take an awfully long time to make. Cyberpunk 2077 was announced all the way back in 2012, and didn't come out for another eight years. Imagine daydreaming about a game when you were an eighth-grader and only being able to play it once you've graduated college! (Then imagine it turned out to be such a mess that PlayStation refused to sell it for several months. Oof.)

The point is that very few games ever manage to live up to the years-long cycle of hype that's become commonplace for big-budget releases. So why not just skip that cycle altogether? On January 25, Xbox did exactly that, debuting a dazzling trailer for a rhythm-based action game called Hi-Fi Rush — and then releasing the game the same day.

Hi-Fi Rush is one of those rare games where every element comes together to enhance the core gameplay or the overarching narrative themes. It's a stark reminder of how this industry was built on taking chances and experimenting — and already the second perfect 10/10 score we've awarded to a game this year.

Exclusive: NASA Explains How the Voyager Missions Could Live Until 2035

The team running NASA’s nearly 46-year-old Voyager missions hope to get the pair of aging spacecraft to 19 billion miles from the Sun (about 208 AU, or 208 times the distance of Earth’s orbit) with at least one instrument on each spacecraft still sending home information about interstellar space.

To pull it off, they’re racing against nuclear physics, constantly searching for ways to keep the Voyagers’ instruments and radio transmitters running as the radioactive material that powers them steadily decays. But now NASA is considering a clever new plan that may buy the Voyagers a little more time.

Scientists Created A New Type of Ice — It Could Also Exist On Distant Moons

Ice is one of the Universe’s most talented shapeshifters.

Under extremely low temperatures and high pressures, the atoms within ice rearrange themselves. This helps explain why scientists have discovered at least 20 different incarnations of ice in the lab, up in space, or deep within the Earth — some of which have no fixed structure at all.

Now, in a happy accident, scientists appear to have created yet another form. Their results, recently published in the journal Science, may offer our first glimpse at a form of ice that looks a lot like liquid water — potentially transforming our grasp of water and its various quirks.

'Batman: The Brave and the Bold' Could Finally Deliver the Epic Robin Story We Need

For as long as there’s been Batman, there’s been Robin. The famous sidekick made his comic book debut in 1940, less than 10 issues after Batman’s own first appearance. But the big screen has been weirdly averse to featuring the Boy Wonder.

That’s finally changing, and what little we know implies plenty about the new DC Universe. On Tuesday, DC Studios co-chair James Gunn announced DC’s new slate of interconnected movies and TV shows. It includes a new film, The Brave and the Bold, that will star yet another new Batman — and for the first time in a long time, a new Robin.
