Flow State - Glenn Gould
You’re on the free tier of Flow State. To get our weekly Tuesday podcasts and access our full archives (including Spotify playlists), become a subscriber: Good morning. Today we’re listening to Glenn Gould, a Canadian classical pianist from Toronto. Born in 1932, Gould exhibited prodigious talent very early, learning to read music before words and demonstrating perfect pitch at age three.¹ At age 10 he enrolled in the Royal Conservatory of Music, developing an ability to “practice” piano by reading sheet music, and gravitating toward Bach and Brahms. While Gould’s 1956 recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations made him world renown, we’re playing his 1981 re-recording, made a year before he passed away. We’re also playing the lesser-known but also amazing 1969 record of Chopin, Mendelssohn, Scriabin, and Prokofiev sonatas and preludes. Chopin: Piano Sonata No. 3… - Glenn Gould (100m, no vocals) Bach: The Goldberg Variations - Glenn Gould (50m, no vocals) Have a really nice Wednesday. 1 via Wikipedia |
