3 Twitter Mistakes That Are Killing Your Growth

In the past couple of months, I’ve audited hundreds of Twitter accounts. Over time I've noticed that most are making the same mistakes over and over.

Here are the 3 most common ones and how to fix them:

❌ Unclear name and handle

I've seen this over and over:

Name: Boy is Virus Handle: @_Boyisvirus

Why is it bad? It gets people confused:

Is this a real person or a bot 🤖
Wonder what this account talks about 🤔

✅ Use your name & handle to build a brand

Clear > Clever, here is what you should do:

Use one handle across platforms (mine is albadawee).
Use your First & last name for your personal brand.
Choose a relevant name for a brand.

❌ Incomplete tweets/replies

Two ways this can happen:

Replying with: "I like what you said and I would add consistency".
Or Communicating half of the idea in a tweet and the other half in another tweet.

Avoid this at all cost, instead here's what you should do instead:

✅ Make every tweet stand on its own

You want each tweet to:

Communicate each idea on its own.
Clear as a stand-alone tweet.
Can easily be retweeted.

If you do it right, you'll get rewarded with impressions, and followers:

❌ Making your bio about you

Here are two examples:

Putting jokes only you understand.
Giving yourself a moniker "The X Guy" (Save it for when you have +10K followers).

If you are starting out, these will do you more harm than good.

✅ Make your bio about your followers

Tell your followers:

What are you talking about.
How are you going to help.
What are you working on.
Why listen to you.

Think of your bio as a landing page, not a personal profile, this will turn it into a followers magnet.

TLDR: Most common Twitter mistakes & how to fix them:

User name and handle → Make it clear.
Incomplete Tweets → Make your Tweets & replies Stand-alone.
Self-centered Twitter bio → Think of your Twitter bio as a landing page.
