3 Quick thefts for audience growth

#1 - 400% more email replies with a tiny change

Welcome emails are very important.

In most cases, it’s the first impression a new subscriber will have of you.

A welcome email should also generate as many replies as possible to help improve delivery.

In his welcome email, Kody from Habit Examples made a small change that resulted in 400% more replies.

Kody’s thesis:

People don’t have time to give thought-out answers

The experiment:

Prompt people to give one-word answers. Offer a bonus as an incentive.

How I would make it better: Make sure the prompt for reply is aligned with the topic of your newsletter.

For example, if you talk about SaaS marketing you could write something like “Reply with IDEA and I’ll send you one random marketing idea for your company.”

#2 - Steal someone else's audience

Common content advice: “Don’t know what to write about? Ask your audience!”

Okay, but what if you don’t have an audience yet?

You can steal it.

This tweet shares a very simple framework to do so:

#3 - From the Steal Club Vault: The curiosity gap

This is not the first time I’m mentioning curiosity gaps.

I’m reading a lot about them because I think it’s a fascinating way to get more eyes on your content.

Here’s an example of a Curiosity gap in action and an explanation of how it works:

Why does it work?

Random Youtuber: “I set my house on fire and THIS happened”

Me, knowing that is probably clickbait: What? What happened? I NEED to know.

Humans are driven by curiosity.

That’s why everyone clickbaits on the internet.

It simply works.

And remember, it's only clickbait if you don't deliver on your promise.

Two Lessons

#1 - 4k revenue from a few emails and 2 tweets

My self-paced course, The Content Formula, launched last Friday.

• I built something my audience asked me (questions in my DMs + email). I didn’t assume.
