GM nerds,
Look, I know you’ve been all just waiting for the second weekly installment of your favorite source of all things digital marketing — and I get it. I’d do 3 weekly, but that might be overkill…
or would it? 👀
ps: big announcement below, don't miss it.

🔗 We're Raising Our Pricing (Again)
A lot of you may still remember this, but a couple weeks ago we raised the prices on our niche edits link building service, but it was only for our single links.
Next week, we'll be raising the prices on our packages by 15-30%. This is the last chance to take advantage of our industry low pricing.
This newsletter is rebranding to Marketing Letter. I purchased the domain which was originally registered in 1998 (OG) for $6k. Currently warming up the email so it doesn't end up in 13k+ spam boxes.
Respond to the email and let me know what you think of the design!

Anyway, lots on deck this week, so let’s do like Shohei Ohtani and score this W ⚾️

→ SEO Page Wars: On vs. Off ⚔️
→ Juicing YouTube  🎥
→ Case Study: Recovering $700K+ via Content Audit 💸→ AI Insight: Bard Finally Enters the Battle, Underwhelms 🤖🪕
→ What’s Good @ Google: Review Verification? 📊
→ Social Media Round-Up: TikTok Hanging in the Balance 🐮⏰

On-Page < Off-Page SEO? ⚔️
Looks like more and more marketers are spending more and more of their time on off-page SEO. This piece asks "why" and delivers some interesting answers by providing useful data.

Everyone (well, everyone worth listening to) agrees that a sound approach to each is essential to a winning strategy. But the reasons why the 131 marketers polled veer toward off- instead of on- are interesting.

Off-page SEO's ability to reach new audiences, boost the authority of new sites, cultivate relationships with other sites, and provide direct ranking boosts & permanent value is highly-valued (checks out, IMO). Beyond that, this also speaks to wide recognition of the necessity of backlinks and what they can do for quality content.

There's one more interesting piece worth considering: more people already know the best practices for on-page SEO, so experimenting with, innovating, and optimizing off-page has more potential for separation from the pack. Good article.

What’s Good @ Google 📊
→ Looks like Google is rolling out a review verification notification. Comes in the form of a ‘Reviews aren’t verified by Google Search‘ icon…  hasn’t arrived in the USA yet, but this is definitely worth noting for SEOs (more on this as it develops)

→ Take it FWIW, but Google’s John Mueller is once again saying that Google doesn’t necessarily evaluate Keyword Stuffing as "unhelpful"
→ Google added the March 2023 Core Update notification to the search status dashboard… nice move

Juicing YouTube: How to Monetize 🎥
I know I’m not the only person saying this, but if you haven’t tapped into YouTube yet, you’ve got to get that ball rolling for you. A lot of people think that actually earning decent yields off YouTube is out of reach for them, but this article puts that view into perspective… just because it isn’t easy, doesn’t mean it’s not realistic.

The article looks at case studies from larger and smaller creators, showing the variability of earnings from YouTube…

For someone like Ali Abdaal, we see how some videos with 866K views can make you $40K while others with 8.2M views only make $25K. It's a bit of a crapshoot. But maybe you think those numbers are not even close to relevant to where you're at RN— that's fine.

We also see some figures from a smaller creator who made $520 from 100K+ views and $3.6K from 495K views.

At the end of the day, with 1K subs and 4K watch-time hours, you can start juicing YouTube. From there on, you never know what's gonna hit, so just keep pumping out Video content. It's never been easier, literally. This article is valuable because it lays out everything you need to know to get you moving on this.

See that ball? It’s in your court.

AI Insight: Bard on the Scene 🤖🪕
-> Shots fired? Bing’s CEO, Mikhail Parahkin, was spitting when he dropped this take on his own product’s superiority to Bard…
-> this comes on the heels of the Twitter revelation that Bing was missing at least a week, maybe two, of data being reported by its API— kind of a big deal for a resource that prides itself on being more up-to-date than its competitors
TechCrunch evaluated the current crop and decided that not only was Bard lagging behind Bing in its initial form, but that the underdog Claude was actually besting Bard in some respects, too
→ Mozilla joining the fray with a $30M investment into an open-source, non-profit competitor to challenge Google and OpenAI
→ NGL, I thought this take was right on the money:

→ Also, this seems pretty bad:
Case Study: Massive Content Audit 💸👀
Have you done a content audit recently? Especially on an underperforming site, it can change the game more than you might think.  In this article- Basic Content Audit: How to Identify $711,240 in Lost Content Value on Your Website (in an Afternoon)- Tyler Hakes proves why this process is so essential.

Basically, he took a site with 250 posts, 70% of which were receiving literally zero traffic. Nada. Zilch.

By identifying search intent mismatch, cannibalization issues, and thin content that could be revised, underperforming metrics like traffic, engagement, conversions, and search rankings were able to be optimized.

Without giving too many spoilers (you should check the article), this is a solid step-by-step guide to conducting a content audit, which includes which tools you should use and which metrics you’ve got to be tracking. The upshot, of course, is that Hakes identified $700K of lost content value. Bit of a game-changer.

Social Media Round-up 🐮⏰
→ Slowly but surely, the tally of countries with TikTok bans keeps growing…
The majority of the bans are specific to government devices, but this is still an interesting trend that could potentially shake the social media landscape at a massive level.

→ Here, MarketingBrew gives a survey of how marketers, advertisers, and creators are currently thinking about and strategizing around the possibility of larger bans.

→ Meanwhile at TikTok, the effort is all about keeping advertisers on board and trying to assure them that the s**t is definitely not hitting or about to hit the fan.

→ Speculation is Meta, Snap, and Google have the most to gain from a TikTok ban… I’d add YouTube to that list

→ Twitter 2.0 has claimed that hate speech has been down on the site since Musk’s takeover— this data suggests that’s not the case. This possibility worried a lot of advertisers before… and looks like it will continue to do so. Obvs a delicate issue.

New Twitter bugs just dropped just as the platform started charging exorbitant $1K monthly rates for gold verification

Meta Verified has launched in the USA; it’s getting some traction because it offers more than just a checkmark, including dedicated account support

YouTube podcast analytics just dropped
