How to Convert Social Media Followers into Loyal Email Subscribers

There are many ways to grow newsletter subscribers, but social media is one of the most effective.

It’s relatively easy to translate your followers there (easier to get) to convert them into subscribers (usually more difficult).

This email will explore how 3 creators convert followers into subscribers on 3 different social media platforms (and what we can steal from them).

🧠 Katelyn Bourgoin & LinkedIn

Katelyn is an expert in buyer psychology, so what she does to convert followers into subscribers is very brainy.

Take a look:

Here's what she does well:

➝ Grabs attention with a question

"Buyer psychology in 3 minutes a week?". I'm sold.

➝ Makes a compelling pitch right away with a clear benefit

It's a free newsletter that "demystifies buyer behavior". Cool!

➝ Gets people curious

"Today we'll explore (Redacted)". This piques your interest.

➝ Adds credibility by sharing the subscriber count

"If it's read by 40,471 people, it must be good"

➝ Focuses her CTA

"Say yes please and I'll share the link"

She regularly makes this type of posts, both on LikedIn and Twitter.

And I know for a fact they do really well!

🖼️ Janis Ozolins & Instagram

Janis is a good friend of mine.

He has over 113k followers on Instagram and here is how he converts them into newsletter subscribers:

Here's what works:

➝ Have a first image that captures attention

Visuals work wonderfully, but there are plenty of creators capturing attention with tweet screenshots right now.

So don't use the "I don't make visuals" as an excuse.

➝ Make your pitch in a second carousel slide.

The thing with Instagram's carousels is that we can't help but swipe.

Your first picture has already built trust and a need for more, and this second slide builds on top of that.

So if you are posting ion Instagram and looking to convert people into email, add a CTA slide to everyone of your posts.

It's low effort, high ROI.

⏯️ Chenell Basilio & Twitter

Chenell writes one of my fav newsletters right now (in fact, maybe some of you are here because you subscribed to her newsletter so 👋).

One thing she does well on Twitter is teasing her upcoming emails.

Take a look👇

Here's what works:

➝ Percieved effort

Chenell reveals how long it took her to research the upcoming email. 23h!

Her work has a higher perceived value as a result.

➝ "You'd be shocked"

Then she hints at what is in the email.She adds intrigue to the story, like in the above example.

➝ No links on the first tweet

This is good because avoids distractions and makes people keep reading.

Another great example of her promotion tweet writing skills:

Here's what works 👇

➝ Showcasing transformation

People are fascinated by transformation stories.

Because she deconstructs growth stories, a before/after structure makes sense as a teaser.

➝ Leave people wanting more

"How'd they do it?".

Apparently Elon Musk has said they’ll be tweaking the algorithm every 48h, so what works today won’t work tomorrow.

You'll be better off studying people.
