I am a sacred place. I am learning to be the refuge I always needed.”

When the people who were supposed to protect and parent her became the source of her terrors, poet Diannely Antigua slipped into the seemingly safe harbor of her hometown church. However, the rules that strictly governed her world and demanded exacting perfection concealed its own systemic abuses. Her diary became her refuge, where she entrusted childhood crushes and existential fears, making and remaking her personal sanctuaries again and again. Watch Diannely Antigua weave lyrical poetry and spellbinding prose and see why it garnered a standing ovation from the CreativeMornings/Portsmouth audience.
