Tim Ferriss - 5-Bullet Friday — April 28, 2023

Hi All!
Here is your weekly dose of 5-Bullet Friday, a list of what I’m pondering and exploring. Feel free to forward this along to friends.
Song I’m listening to
“Sabelo” (Spotify, YouTube) by Bajofondo. Another gem from Bajofondo—truly one of the widest-ranging bands on the planet—is Zitarrosa (Spotify, YouTube). Be sure to listen until the guitar sets in (~1:23).
What I’m reading
“Botanist Stefano Mancuso: ‘You can anaesthetise all plants. This is extremely fascinating.’” Pair it with Michael Pollan’s older New Yorker piece: “The Intelligent Plant.”
Magic trick I’m watching
Infinite Chocolate Bar Trick. Special thanks to Simon Coronel, world champion of magic, for making me aware of this.
Maxim I’m revisiting
“Don’t aim to be the best. Be the only.” This is one of Kevin Kelly’s favorite maxims, and it was one of my favorite segments from our recent in-person conversation. I’ll be rereading my heavily highlighted copy of his Excellent Advice for Living often. For an additional taste of Kevin’s wisdom, read his short and powerful essay “1,000 True Fans.”
Quote I’m pondering
“The poet Rilke looked at a statue of Apollo about fifty years ago, and Apollo spoke to him. ‘You must change your life,’ he said. When true myth rises into consciousness, that is always its message. You must change your life.”
— Ursula K. Le Guin

You can complement this edition of 5-Bullet Friday with my most recent interview with bestselling author Michael Pollan, mind-blowing card tricks by the magical phenom Richard Turner, my wide-ranging conversation with master magician David Blaine, and my podcast episode featuring famed entertainer Penn Jillette of Penn & Teller.
And, as always, please give me feedback on Twitter. Which bullet above is your favorite? What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Please let me know. Just send a tweet to @tferriss and put #5BulletFriday at the end so I can find it.
Have a wonderful weekend, all.
Much love to you and yours,
Tim
P.S. Deal of the Week — Maui Nui Venison: responsible, nutrient-dense, and wildly delicious venison.
I’ve been eating Maui Nui Venison for the past three years, and there’s no going back. Last month at SXSW, I ate their sugar-free venison sticks every day as my on-the-go protein. My pantry and freezers are full of Maui Nui Venison, and I restock every month. Why? (1) If I combine it with even a little exercise, I drop body fat unbelievably quickly. (2) It tastes delicious and isn’t gamey at all. (3) Ethically, I feel great about Maui Nui protein, as axis deer are an invasive species on Maui, where their population needs to be managed in order to protect vulnerable ecosystems. The damage from overpopulation looks like wildfire damage and even disrupts coral systems with runoff.
Harvested using stress-free methods, Maui Nui’s fresh venison is clean-tasting, tender, and one of the most nutrient-dense meats on the planet. A recent analysis concluded that Maui Nui venison contained twice the antioxidants, 8x the healthy fats, and 22% more protein per ounce than beef. Maui Nui is a near daily go-to for me, both as a supplement to my daily diet (with broth, jerky snacks, etc.) and through main courses (via their fresh-meat subscription program). I fell in love with this company so much that I ended up investing, which is rare.
Remarkably, Maui Nui has nearly stabilized Maui’s axis deer population, and they won’t go beyond stabilization, which is why I’m excited to offer 5-Bullet Friday subscribers 20% off site-wide, including your first purchase of their remaining subscription boxes. Visit MauiNuiVenison.com/Tim to take advantage of this limited-time offer and get 20% off.
