Today we’re listening to Metric System 1981, an ambient music project from German composer Michael Schacht. In the ‘80s, he was active in the electronic underground scene in Berlin, putting out cassette tapes before retiring from music at the end of the decade.¹ In 2020, after more than thirty years, he resumed making electronic music, with a focus on synth-based ambient. We’re playing 2020 Sessions first, a collection of four longform meditations that create an atmosphere of profundity.
