There’s no question about it, the job market has been quite the roller coaster ride in recent years - quickly soaring and diving from moments of desperate calls for workers to major corporate layoffs. It’s enough to make anyone dizzy, but there is one way to ground yourself and guide your career journey. Root yourself in purpose-driven work for the planet. Being able to look at the work you’ve done for the week and know you’ve made a difference toward our greener future is nothing short of a miracle. In our last edition, we covered utilizing your existing skillset to find work that aligns with your values. This week we are joined by Michelle Li of Clever Carbon. Michelle will help us detect signs a company is not only talking the talk but also walking the walk when it comes to climate. Michelle will also highlight a few tips and tactics you can use to help push companies towards better transparency around sustainability. Signs of a Climate-Conscience CompanyOr 6 Strategies to Make Your Company More Climate-ConscienceWith Michelle Li of Clever Carbon Two truths on a Tuesday:
Whether you’re looking for your next gig, next investment, or wondering about the company you work for, there are obvious places to look to tell if a company cares about the planet. Additionally, these are strategies to take back to your company to engage employees further with your sustainability initiatives. Here are six less obvious ones: OnboardingThis is the first entry of someone new to the company. If the company really cares about the planet, they will have content to share around company initiatives, climate enablement, and metrics. BenefitsIn a similar vein to onboarding, a company that offers benefits to help employees live more sustainably is a solid sign. Perhaps a stipend for public transportation to encourage fewer travel emissions, reimbursement for a renewable energy home assessment, reimbursement for period underwear, reimbursement for climate courses, and more. MetricsCarbon footprint? Water footprint? Waste footprint? Kilometers or miles flown by employees? If a company cares, they will measure and share, and employees will know a few of them off the top of their heads. Training, Learning, and EnablementDid you know that corporate workshops exist for climate optimism, climate anxiety, low-waste lifestyle training, carbon footprint literacy, climate-centric nutrition and diet, and more? Incentive and BonusesCompanies are beginning to tie compensation to ESG performance. InvestorsA company's investors can provide a lot of interesting insights. Regardless of whether you’re a new or mature company, if you care, you care! Doesn't mean you have to check all the boxes, but these are some places to look. If you're a company that does want to make climate and sustainability a core value and needs help getting started, reach out!
