Tim Ferriss - 5-Bullet Friday — June 9, 2023

Hi All!
Here is your weekly dose of 5-Bullet Friday, a list of what I’m pondering and exploring. Feel free to forward this along to friends.
Podcast episode I’m listening to
“Making: Jordan Peele” (Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Overcast) on the Making podcast. How are polymaths made? Who was Jordan Peele before Key & Peele? This podcast is a hilarious ride that touches on both. Here’s the episode’s description: “Jordan Peele (@JordanPeele) is responsible for modern classics in the horror genre, including the films Us, Nope, and the Oscar-winning Get Out. Before all that, he was a self-described nerd. He majored in puppetry in college before dropping out with his friend Rebecca Drysdale to pursue a career in comedy. Hear from Drysdale, Peele’s early collaborator Brendan Hunt (@brendanhunting) [perhaps best known as the assistant coach in Ted Lasso], and cultural critic Aisha Harris (@craftingmystyle) about Jordan Peele’s rise to comedic and horror genius.”
Word of the week
Callipygian, “having well-shaped buttocks.” From Ancient Greek: κάλλος (kállos, “beauty”) + πυγή (pugḗ, “buttocks”). To easily remember it, think of this word: calligraphy, “the art of beautiful writing, elegant penmanship,” 1610s, from Latinized form of Greek kaligraphia, from kállos “beauty” + graphein “to write.”
What I’m watching
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, created by Rafał Jaki (@GwentBro) and Mike Pondsmith, Cyberpunk universe creator. Thanks to Dr. Snapping Turtle for recommending this one. And to cover my ass upfront, a warning: this series is *very* intense. To be clear, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners isn’t all blood and guts. There’s some great character development and lots of well-designed plot twists, but… you gotta be able to handle extreme violence. What qualifies as extreme? Here’s the NSFW trailer, and you can judge for yourself. With my renewed interest in making art, it’s been fun to review Japanese while also studying the particular way a lot of anime uses super-detailed backgrounds, extremely high-contrast lighting effects, and so on.
What I’m listening to
“Bora Passear” (YouTube, Apple Music, Spotify) by Curumin (@curumineosaipins).
Quote I’m pondering
“Don’t worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you’ll have to ram them down people’s throats.”
— Howard Aiken

You can complement this edition of 5-Bullet Friday with my conversation with polymath and “most interesting man in the world” Kevin Kelly, this Random Show episode recorded in Japan with my good friend Kevin Rose, and my interview with comedy legend Jerry Seinfeld.
And, as always, please give me feedback on Twitter. Which bullet above is your favorite? What do you want more or less of? Other suggestions? Please let me know. Just send a tweet to @tferriss and put #5BulletFriday at the end so I can find it.
Have a wonderful weekend, all.
Much love to you and yours,
Tim
P.S. Deal of the Week — Maui Nui Venison: responsible, nutrient-dense, and wildly delicious venison.
I’ve been eating Maui Nui Venison for the past three years, and there’s no going back. During SXSW, I ate their sugar-free venison sticks every day as my on-the-go protein. My pantry and freezers are full of Maui Nui Venison, and I restock every month. Why? (1) If I combine it with even a little exercise, I drop body fat unbelievably quickly. (2) It tastes delicious and isn’t gamey at all. (3) Ethically, I feel great about Maui Nui protein, as axis deer are an invasive species on Maui, where their population needs to be managed in order to protect vulnerable ecosystems. The damage from overpopulation looks like wildfire damage and even disrupts coral systems with runoff.
Harvested using stress-free methods, Maui Nui’s fresh venison is clean-tasting, tender, and one of the most nutrient-dense meats on the planet. A recent analysis concluded that Maui Nui venison contained twice the antioxidants, 8x the healthy fats, and 22% more protein per ounce than beef. Maui Nui is a near daily go-to for me, both as a supplement to my daily diet (with broth, jerky snacks, etc.) and through main courses (via their fresh-meat subscription program). I fell in love with this company so much that I ended up investing, which is rare.
Remarkably, Maui Nui has nearly stabilized Maui’s axis deer population, and they won’t go beyond stabilization, which is why I’m excited to offer 5-Bullet Friday subscribers 20% off site-wide, including your first purchase of their remaining subscription boxes. Visit MauiNuiVenison.com/Tim to take advantage of this limited-time offer and get 20% off.
