SEO Chatter - I'm with Einstein on this one

The word "simple" doesn't get nearly as enough buzz as it should these days.

Especially, in the SEO and digital marketing world.

However:

Simple is beautiful.

Simple is stress-free.

And simple just plain works.

Don't let the Twitter bros or Flakebook gurus fool you into thinking any differently when it comes to creating great content, ranking your website on Google, pulling in more traffic, and increasing your earnings.

You see, as humans, we have a tendency to make things more complicated than they need to be.

Case in point:

When people are faced with two competing hypotheses, they're likely to choose the more complex one.

That's because our strong desire to solve a problem causes us to ignore simple solutions, thinking, 'that will never work'.

The scientific name for this logical fallacy is complexity bias.

Now, the reason I'm sharing this with you is because there are a ton of self-proclaimed SEOs and digital marketers who make everything seem like a complicated mess in order to achieve the same types of results they're experiencing.

But that's simply not true.

If you stick to the basics of SEO, use unsexy (but proven) digital marketing strategies, and ignore the crazy sales funnels others like to brag about, you can experience:

• Higher rankings
• More traffic
• And extra earnings

I've proven this time and time again with my own sites and digital products I've sold over the last decade and a half.

And I deeply enjoy sharing those simple secrets of success with you.

The fact is that many of those gurus who pound their chest online showing off a cOmPlex sYsTem they created (all by themselves, of course) are actually clever marketers who run an agency or sell some type of service they want to rope you into.

And marketers like that love to make frequent use of complexity bias for their own gain.

Why?

Because, if you think something is harder than it is, then you surrender your responsibility to understand it. As a result, you feel more compelled to pay THAT person to fix it. (Ding! Ding! Ding!)

See how that works?

As Edsger W. Dijkstra, a pioneer in computer science, puts it:

“Simplicity is a great virtue but it requires hard work to achieve it and education to appreciate it. And to make matters worse: complexity sells better.”

The next time you find yourself reading about a complex SEO or digital marketing method and start begin thinking, 'that must work because it's complicated', remind yourself of the valuable lesson you learned today. Then, promptly click out of it, and walk away.

Because the truth is that real geniuses are good at eliminating unnecessary complexity.

Einstein, for instance, was a master at sifting the essential from the non-essential.

Steve Jobs was the same.

So is Marie Kondo.

And Sara Blakely.

And look at how ultra-successful they all were in their respective fields because of that simplistic mentality.
