The Crazy World of Bitcoin

The title says it all. What is the crazy world of Bitcoin? From mining to Ordinals and Inscriptions, that megalithic OG blockchain known as Bitcoin has seriously grown and morphed back into the public’s imagination. This article was so hot it snagged a shout-out tweet from Leonidas, which got over 15K views.

In December 2022, Bitcoin developer Casey Rodarmor released open-source ORD Software, which runs on top of a full Bitcoin Core node and allows users to encode computer files into hexadecimal data within a Bitcoin transaction. Thus was born the Rodarmor Theory. The core principle  —  some would say insight  —  of the Rodarmor Theory is that it is possible to order satoshis chronologically based upon when they were mined.

IPFS Powers the Decentralized Web

Many people don’t realize that their NFTs, besides rare projects like CryptoPunks and Ordinals, are not even stored on the blockchain. That may come as a surprise to many JPEG collectors. What emerges from this article is a deeper awareness of P2P file sharing and decentralized storage, and how it has been capitalized by companies like Arweave and Filecoin. The InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) was deployed in 2015 by Protocol Labs, and it quickly gained popularity. And why wouldn’t it? IPFS is an open-source, peer-to-peer, file-sharing protocol that enables its users to host data and make it accessible to others at no cost.

SEC Takes Aim at Coinbase and Binance

Binance is the biggest crypto exchange in the world. Coinbase is the biggest crypto exchange in the United States. What do they have in common? They’re both being sued by the United States SEC for selling unregistered securities. How does an orange grove owner from the 1940s play into all this?

While SEC Chair Gary Gensler has been asked to provide further clarification around blockchain, crypto, and decentralized finance as a form of an investment contract, the SEC remains quiet and has instead opted to provide clarification via enforcement actions. This is what led to the charges against Binance and Coinbase.
