Let’s see today’s Newsletter around a Micro SaaS niche. No fluffy content. If your goal is to build a $100m ARR business, this is not the right post. Here I am NOT going to talk about building the next Facebook or Twitter. If your goal is to make a $1K to $10K MRR, continue reading. This post will cover one SAAS area and talk about multiple niches in this space. This post also explains how to do tech implementation, do market analysis, how the current players are doing, and ends with a cost analysis to understand the overall cost for 100 users. Let’s see some of the players around Micro SaaS products around Membership management platforms. ⛳ ⛳ Current players
🙅♀️🙅 PessimistsNegative Nancy says - Business can simply write their own Membership management software. Me - It takes a lot of time, expertise, and resources to build a reliable software solution, which can distract from core business activities. Creating custom software can be expensive, with ongoing costs for maintenance and support. It's often more cost-effective and efficient for businesses to rely on existing SaaS solutions for membership management, allowing businesses to focus on their core operations. Negative Nancy says - Platforms like Telegram and Discord are messaging platforms. No one would pick these platforms to build a membership based business. Me - There is a huge demand for SaaS solutions that solve the membership management problems on these platforms. For example, Combot received $200K in funding. Levellr crossed $1K MRR and gained traction in less than 5 months. OverGroups crossed $260 MRR. Another example in this space is LaunchPass. 💡💡 Deep-dive & Some nichesThe concept of Membership based business is not new. Membership-based businesses have been around for a long time. They offer exclusive benefits and create a sense of community. Members feel connected and loyal to these businesses. This model helps companies stand out and provides ongoing value to members. Members enjoy special perks and a feeling of belonging. This approach brings stability, regular income, and stronger customer relationships. But running a membership platform is not easy without a robust software that handles the activities around Members onboarding, management, engaging with members, handling access levels based on membership tiers, payments, cancellations etc. Let’s see some of the Member Management platforms across various ecosystems and see how the existing players are performing along with the traffic and search volume data. Wordpress Plugin for Membership Management:The advantage that WordPress brings to the table is its biggest ecosystem of developers/plugins/hosting providers. Given its extremely low learning curve, WordPress is used by millions of people to spin up a website in minutes. On top of the extremely easy setup, WordPress is also one of the default CMS options from various hosting providers like GoDaddy. Create a Micro-SaaS tool that lets WordPress site owners add Membership functionality to their sites. Your Micro-SaaS tool should provide an installable code to add to their WordPress sites to handle Membership functionality. Alternatively, you can also achieve this using a WordPress plugin. Your tool should also be able to show a nice dashboard to WordPress website owners to see stats around members and also provide options to take certain actions like add members, delete members, suspend members, etc. Also, make sure you support payment functionality to help create paid membership sites on WordPress sites. Some players doing well in this space are Paid Memberships Pro and MemberPress. For example, Memberships Pro is installed by more than 100K businesses. Another example is ARMembership Plugin. Micro SaaS for Managing Subscriptions for Paid Community on Slack, Discord, Telegram or WhatsApp:Create a SaaS product that helps users manage their Telegram communities. Managing communities on Telegram has a few challenges as the community grows. The first challenge is accepting payments and allowing only paid members to have access to Telegram is a tedious process. Also, when a user cancels a paid subscription, the Telegram admin/moderator has to manually delete the subscriber from the group. When you have 100 subscribers, this is doable but as the Telegram community grows to thousands of subscribers, this gets tough. The second challenge is identifying the spammers who spam the Telegram group and gracefully sending a warning not to spam the group. The third challenge is getting the analytics on how members are participating in discussions - having data about the analytics will help community moderators identify the true fans in the community and reward them. The analytics will also help the moderators to see why a few people are not participating actively by talking to the users and sending a survey. This is a big problem for pretty much any community whether it runs on Telegram, Slack, or Discord. Create a SaaS solution to solve these challenges. This trend has just picked up with everyone building communities. For example, Combot received $200K in funding. Levellr crossed $1K MRR and gained traction in less than 5 months. OverGroups crossed $260 MRR. Another example in this space is LaunchPass. Podcast Membership Platform:One of the biggest problem for any one running podcasts is finding a way to monetize. People running podcasts will be happy to be part of membership platform that does the heavy lifting for them with respect to getting sponsorships. Create a Podcast Membership platform that offers a powerful toolkit that enables podcast owners to monetize their shows effectively. By offering exclusive content and perks to loyal listeners who become paying members, podcasters can generate a sustainable income while fostering a dedicated community. In addition to revenue generation and increased engagement, Podcast Membership Platforms can also offer valuable analytics and data insights. These analytics enable podcasters to better understand their audience, gain insights into member behavior and preferences, and make informed decisions to enhance their content and offerings. Podfan and Glow are a few products in this space. Podfan has reached 1000+ users. Glow: Founded in 2019, it received $2.3M in funding and was acquired by Libsyn. Listen App is another example in this space (not just for monetising but for handling the events, building relationships with audience and engaging fans). Micro SaaS for Membership Management for Business:A B2C Membership Management platform is like a super handy software that helps businesses handle their memberships with their customers. It's got all the cool tools to make things easy, like a fancy database to keep track of member info, smooth enrollment processes, different membership levels with sweet perks, and ways to communicate and engage with members. The platform also typically set it up to automatically handle renewals and payments, and it even gives you fancy reports to see how your membership is growing. It’s like having a personal assistant to manage your B2C memberships and make sure everyone's happy. But the beauty of this is that this can be further niches down to different verticals like Gym Management, Dental Care Management, Health Club Management, Wellness Clubs, Church Management etc too. For example, checkout Pushpress that built Gym management software. Another example is BoomCloud that built the solution for dental clinics. Tools like these take care of the nitty-gritty of membership management for businesses, handling all the heavy lifting. NoCode Membership Management solutions (Javascript based):Tools like MemberSpace provide a membership management and access control solution for website owners. These Micro SaaS solutions allows website owners to easily add membership functionality to their websites without extensive development work. Website owners can create different membership levels or tiers, restrict access to certain content or features based on membership, and manage member subscriptions and payments. These tools also provides a user-friendly interface to set up and customize membership plans, registration forms, and member login portals. Create a Micro SaaS solutions that solves these problems and helps users integrate membership management into their websites. The SaaS should also help integrate with popular website builders like Squarespace, Wix, and Webflow, allowing seamless integration with existing websites. It should handle member authentication, login, and password management, ensuring a secure member experience. Bonus points, if the SaaS can also offer features such as email automation, member analytics, and the ability to integrate with popular payment gateways for collecting membership fees. MemberSpace is a profitable Micro SaaS product in this space. MemberStack is another example that is profitable in this space. 🔒 👉 [Get access to 1000+ additional ideas and more additional ideas in this niche and across all niches from Pro version with data points, revenue information].💻 💻 Technical chops Learn technical pointers on how to build products around this niche. 👉 🔒[Pro access] 📢 📢 Marketing chops Learn Marketing pointers on how to start marketing the products for this niche.
