Flow State - Angus MacRae
You’re on the free tier of Flow State. For more music, become a subscriber: Good morning. Today we’re listening to Angus MacRae, a British composer and multi-instrumentalist. His mother was a piano teacher, often playing classical music around the house. Angus started playing piano at age 5, and making music as a teenager.¹ He went on to earn a degree in music, but his love remained creating it. “When I was supposed to be playing Chopin, I was much more interested in improvising and figuring out chords and patterns that resonated with me emotionally,” he told 15 Questions. We’re starting with Cry Wolf from 2017, 30 minutes of soft piano reminiscent of Nils Frahm, with the occasional dash of violin. Existence, his latest LP from May, is the dramatic, dynamic score to a ballet that premiered in Wiesbaden, Germany in April. Vivarium, from 2022, is similarly grand in scale, featuring Natalia Tsupryk on violin among others; don’t miss “Lighthouse.” Cry Wolf - Angus MacRae (30m, no vocals) Existence - Angus MacRae (40m, a couple tracks with wordless choral vocals) Vivarium - Angus MacRae (50m, vocals on track 4) Have a great Thursday. |
