Better Sheets - BetterSheets.co Looks Different

Hi,

Just wanted to email you and let you know what I'm doing at BetterSheets.co

Because there are lots of little changes, and some big changes happening.

First, let me tell you the goals, then I'll tell you the path I'm on, and ultimately I'll share with you some specific changes I've implemented recently.

The Goals

The goal of BetterSheets.co, as of right now is to be the most user-friendly learning platform for Google Sheets users.

My goal is to be better than Google's own support pages.

That's my mission. Ultimately it's in service to you. No matter what skill level you are now, and no matter where you want to be.

I'm sorry but this doesn't necessarily mean it's going to answer every question. And by no means have I reached this goal.

Better Sheets is not going to be the ONLY resource you ever use.

I do hope that Better Sheets is on your mind when you're working in Google Sheets at 10pm at night, wondering: "Is there a better way to do this?"

And I hope to help you never end up in that situation.

Or...better yet, it's 10 pm at night and you're having a great time in the sheets! Not even thinking about the clock anymore.

I'll be there for you too, then!

The Path

I change BetterSheets.co every day. At least I'm showing up, in some way shape or form every single day. Some buttons might move around (see the changes below). New tutorials might be uploaded. Some pages might be updated (see below for more specific updates).

I don't think there is a specific BEST way to do Google Sheets and also not a BEST way to make this business work. Current members love the lifetime deal.

That price will keep rising steadily over the months and years. Right now it's $199.

If you can't afford that, I have monthly access for $29/month for sheets and videos.

If you can't afford that, $19/month for videos only.

If you can't afford that, I have TONS of videos on YouTube and TikTok for free.

Speaking of TikTok, something is happening there.

Go check out Better Sheets on TikTok. You might LOVE it. You might HATE it. But you'll definitely want to see what I'm up to there.

Generally speaking, My philosophy with Better Sheets is to keep improving it. Each and every day. It might take a long time to make it perfect. Or it may never be perfect. But I do hope to keep making it better.

The Changes

I wanted to send this email to share with you that I've changed a bunch of the look and feel of Better Sheets. It's all in service to users. So if something doesn't seem right, reply. Tell me when you're confused. I'll make it better.

What you found useful.
What you found to be incredible.
What you found disturbing but probably just misguided.

For example: Sheryl emailed me and said "Sheetheads" was too close to Shitheads. Yeah that was the joke, but the response was well heard. A silly funny moment could break the positivity of trying to make your experience better in sheets.

Recently I added a few simple tools to help you use sheets Better:

• ​/copy to make that copy url easier to make. So you can share your sheets with others easier.
• ​/sheetshot to take a screenshot of your Spreadsheet. Can be hard to get the same size every time. And especially hard if you're on your phone at the time. This will do it for you. Just add your sheet url, then right click and save the image to your device.

7 Day Free Trial

One big change is that now there is a 7 day free trail. no credit card required. This should enable you, your friends, your colleagues, to learn something you need to learn now, right now. It's meant to get you watching the deeper, better-er videos, tutorials. And to test out some of the sheets.

I've updated each and every formula in the Formulas Database: 500+ formulas. If that formula is in a tutorial, you'll get a link directly to that tutorial to see how it's used.

I updated the text for even formulas that I don't feature in any tutorials. So you might see "0 Tutorials" or you might not, because I'm trying to edit that text.

I'm adding more text, signposts, and links to different parts of the site. To make sure that you know what each part does and what's available.

You can find courses at BetterSheets.co/courses. These are sets of videos I've created to be watched in a specific order.

and you can find categorized sections at BetterSheets.co/topics as well. This is a group of videos that share a common thread, and you can watch them in any order.

You can find additional tools available at BetterSheets.co/tools. This includes OnlySheets (the paywall for Google Sheets), and Better Letters (the newsletter creator in a Google Sheet), among more than a dozen tools.

This tools section includes the free Google Sheet Add-ons but also tools that you can buy separately, and are included for free for Lifetime members. I'm working on making it more clear what's included in which pricing plan.

It's a lot of stuff. People have said that.

I just made this section on the home page and I realized... "It's a lot of stuff"

I bring this up because lately I've been getting the same question over and over again...

"Where should I start?"

And there's no great answer for that, yet. I'm working on a little quiz to help you through your first few tutorials.

Here's what I would recommend for anyone:

1. Make sure you know that formulas can be combined. Beyond single formulas, learn Formula Combinations.
   29 tutorials wait for you in the Category of "Formula Combinations". Learn INDEX/MATCH and TRANSPOSE/UNIQUE for starters.
2. ​Learn Apps Script. This beyond anything else is key to unlocking the real secrets of spreadsheets.
   For a 40 minute quick course: Learn to Code in Google Sheets (Available on AppSumo for $5)
   For a 3 hour deep dive: Spreadsheet Automation 101 ( → Available on Udemy for the lowest price possible for the next 5 days)
3. Feeling lucky? On BetterSheets.co/Tutorials click the button "Random Tutorial" and go learn something new.
4. Also same applies for /Formulas. Go check out a random formula.

A few UI changes to note:

• I've moved tags/formulas filtering to the left on the Tutorials page. This should be more normal sidebar kind of design like on other sites.
• I've deleted un-useful images from across the site. Gives more room for you to read. I've introduced a gradient background and for a bout a week or two it was hard to read much on the site. I added white-ish backgrounds where there's text. Still working on making sure it's readable for everyone. If you find it hard to read, let me know.

If you made it this far I didn't even announce yet two little sheet based tools I have added to Better Sheets. 1 is an NPS scorer with a database in sheets. And the other is a vote to find out if you start your sheets in A1 or B2. Go vote. The votes are tallied in a sheet. And in both cases the data is embedded in the site, from the sheet.
