4 non-negotiable criteria for a good agency lead

I have 4 non-negotiable criteria I use when determining if a lead is good lead for an agency.

They are:

1. Realistic Budget ($20,000+)
A good web design lead will always have a realistic, high-paying budget. For most agencies that's going to be somewhere in the $20,000–$75,000 range.

2. Warm and Actively Seeking an Agency
It’s typically a waste of time to try and pitch someone who isn’t looking to buy what you sell. You're a web design agency, if a client isn't looking to hire a web design agency they aren't a warm lead.

3. Strong Company Reputation
Scammy-looking companies are never good leads. If a company doesn’t look reputable or trust-worthy, they're most likely not worth pursuing.

4. Realistic Scope of Work
If a client wants an eBay clone built in 3 days for $500, this is an obvious warning flag – and even substantial budgets can become impractical if the scope of work isn’t appropriate.

If a lead fails in any of these four areas, I throw it out.

What's left is essentially a list of perfect-match, ready-to-pitch leads for most web design and development agencies.
