What is your “official” professional role and field?

I am the founder and director of WoW Fundraising Consultancy which I established over two years ago with the vision to raise awareness and encourage support for initiatives that wish to create positive and transformational social change. I have 12 years of experience working in resource mobilisation and have worked with several international development and social impact organisations. In recent years I have increasingly worked with organisations that focus on advancing women's and girls’ rights and gender justice such as Plan International, Girl Effect, More than Brides Alliance, Equality Now and FAIR SHARE of Women Leaders.

What if your unofficial role and field?

I am a mentor. I started this as part of my involvement in Women of Color in Fundraising and Philanthropy and it has now been a big part of my life for the past few years! It has been an incredible experience supporting professionals in their early careers and seeing them grow, develop and achieve inspirational milestones. I have learnt so much from my mentees too, so it has been this beautiful experience of learning and engagement on both sides.

How did you get to where you are today in your career?

When growing up in the UK, I volunteered for a few charities. I then got actively involved in the UNICEF UK student society when studying for my bachelor's. After completing my bachelor's degree, I was fortunate enough to do a masters in International Development. I then took an internship as a fundraiser after graduating and never looked back!

What kind of support are you most excited to receive at this point in your career?

I am really excited to connect with other Bloomers, learn from their journeys, and share insights and experiences in being social impact professionals. I also want to offer my services to any nonprofits and initiatives that need support with fundraising. I also started to offer coaching this year - I guess a natural development from being a mentor! So I will be really happy to connect with anyone who is also interested in career/leadership coaching!

Your relationship to “social impact”: has it evolved since you began your career?

When I started my career, I was very much an ‘I want to make a difference’ in the world person and that drove me as a fundraiser. It still does now but I also believe I am a social impact thinker and not just a fundraiser. I think for me it has become a core part of who I am not only in my work but in who I am as a person. It strongly affects my outlook on the world we live in, what we do, how we act. Things are rarely straightforward when we want to make a difference. I believe we should see things always from a lens of intersectionality and the perspectives of all we work with to make a true impact.

Lessons you’re taking away from the first few years of your work experience, and applying to the next chapters of your career.

• Remember you always have something to bring to the table.
• Speak your mind.
• Be open to all ideas and perspectives - our peers and those we wish to serve can be our best teachers.
• Our careers are a continuous learning curve!

​United Nations OHCHR Indigenous Fellowship Program: The aim of the programme is to give indigenous persons the opportunity to gain knowledge about the UN system and mechanisms dealing with human rights issues in general and indigenous issues in particular.

​2048 Fellowship: A year-long program designed to support Palestinian creatives in bringing their ideas to life through financial and mentorship support. Fellows receive a $25,000 grant.

​AVAC Advocacy Fellows: strengthens the capacity of civil society advocates and organizations to monitor, support and help shape HIV prevention research and rapid rollout of new effective interventions in low- and middle-income countries facing substantial HIV burdens.
​
​Gates Cambridge: 80 full-cost scholarships to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK to pursue a postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of Cambridge.
