Niche Site Lady - I just dropped everything for this.

I am JUGGLING right now!

I still have blog posts to write and YouTube videos to make from a $10k press trip I took over a month ago. Eek!

I have a $600 (gifted) luggage that's been sat next to my desk for weeks that I need to review.

My writers have created 50+ articles that I need to find photos for and publish.

I just joined the gym and booked classes for almost every day.

And in my quest to be a better parent,

I signed my kids up for a ton of after-school activities which means I have to finish work at 3 pm.

Yikes!

Then just yesterday, I saw a new course drop.

At first I was like "Noooooooooo! I'm already so busy!"

But then I checked out the sales page,

And I saw such value in it,

That taking it and implementing the strategies became my number one priority.

Let me explain why I'm not crazy.

One of the biggest strengths that I have with this tiny business, is that I can pivot, and FAST.

What would take a large publishing company months,

I can do in a day, if I make it the number one priority.

Scrappiness is my strong suit.

And here's why this new task has jumped right to the top of my Trello board...

In my last income report, you may remember that I said that this month I would be focusing on updating old content.

And I have been.

Well, my teammate has.

My main writer has been going through my oldest posts and improving them by:

• Finding KWs to add using the new QueryHunter
• Updating titles and meta descriptions
• Editing copy so it reads better
• Adding better images
• Improving formatting
• Adding internal links

I made Loom videos to show him what I wanted done. It's pretty simple stuff. And it works.

This bit's important... 

In the September 2023 Helpful Content Update, Google added a line to their documentation that says:

"Are you changing the date of pages to make them seem fresh when the content has not substantially changed?”

So we need to make sure that the changes are substantial.

You can't just make a couple of tweaks and change the date to today any more.

Maybe you could before, but not now.

Okay, so I had my plan for substantially updating content,

And my best writer has stopped creating any new content while he works on it.

But is mine the best plan there?

Well, it's not bad...

But when I looked into the strategy that Tony Hill has detailed,

I knew his was way better.

I'd be foolish to continue with my current content-updating plan,

When there's a much better one we can follow.

So, am I crazy to drop everything for this?

I'd be crazy if I didn't!

I'd be crazy if I opted out of working in the most efficient way.

So who's Tony Hill, anyway?

Good question.

I only last week started following him on Twitter (sorry, Tony!)

But once I learned that his sites get over 8 million page views per month, that got my attention!

I'm always looking to see what people who are ahead of me are doing.

So if you take nothing else from this email,

Just follow Tony on Twitter, because he's sharing some very juicy tips there.

Who's this course for?

Tony's course is aimed at helping people who have been smacked by Google Updates to get their traffic back.

But, prevention is better than cure, as they say!

So if you're in the lucky minority who hasn't seen a big drop in traffic thanks to the Google Gods, 

Then this might still be for you.

Obviously, I'm not allowed to share snippets from inside the course,

But I'm going to break that rule and share this bit (sorry again, Tony!)

Because my travel blog is in year 4 and hasn't suffered any major traffic losses yet.

But I do know what algorithm updates feel like.

Last September, my gaming website had 634,000 views and made $12k in the month.

This September, I'll be very lucky to get half of that.

And here's the thing...

Even though my main site is 50% up year on year, 

When I started the course and looked at a page level, 

I found that many of the individual pages had suffered huge traffic losses...

Yikes!

I've now binged watched most of the course (aside from the bonuses so I can't comment on those),

Here are my thoughts to help you decide if it's for you or not...

Why I (personally) love this course

1. There is absolutely zero fluff.

2. The instructions are clear - do this, then do this, then do this.

3. Tony explains his reasoning behind each of the instructions he gives.

4. You can see examples of good and bad content.

5. Some bits are straightforward enough that I can get my VAs to do them.

Tony's course comes with access to a forum, where you can ask him questions if you ever need extra help.

It also has the backing of Jon Dykstra - someone who I've looked up to for a long time, and whose income reports several years ago first showed me what was possible.

Who shouldn't take the course

I'll be honest - The course isn't cheap, and it isn't for everyone. 

If you find yourself on this list, then put your wallet away.

• Anyone whose site is less than a year old
  
• Anyone who has fewer than 100 posts
• Anyone with a bulk-publishing, churn-and-burn-style strategy
• Anyone who's struggling to pay their bills this month
• Anyone who isn't committed to putting in the work needed to improve content

My plan

Now that I've binged the course, I have a list of posts to attack, and a checklist of what to do for each of them.

I'm going to tackle the worst offenders first,

Then when I'm confident that I know the processes inside out,

I'll train team members to take over the workflow.

My content updates will be a hands-off process very soon.

Because everything is documented so clearly, I'll have no problems handing this over to my team.
