The Courage to Go for It

The majority of us know we’re more than our job, more than our paychecks, and ultimately, more than the career we’re settling for. 

Maybe you feel this way. (I know I did.) If you’re like I was, then you dream about the day you gain the courage to go for it, to say “enough is enough,” and to go find work that stirs your soul, whatever that may be. 

Write of Passage alum Louie Bacaj felt this way, too. And when he finally found the courage to go for it, it didn’t just change his career. 

It changed his life. 

Louie went from being a corporate engineer to a self-employed business owner and creator on the Internet. More importantly, he achieved what he actually wanted for himself: freedom. 

See, Louie grew up poor. All his life, he believed money in the bank equaled freedom. So, he worked hard. He climbed the corporate ladder. But once Louie’s bank account was full, he felt…empty. Turns out, more money didn’t make him happier. For most of us, it takes more than money. 

This realization shook him awake. He didn’t just want a paycheck anymore. He wanted fulfillment in his work and life. So, what now?

No more 50-meeting weeks. No more flying red-eyes on his boss’s whim. Now, Louie works when he wants, where he wants, with whom he wants. 

But that’s not all. Recently, Louie Tweeted,

“I want to call out a few other wins from two years in the arena: I got to walk my kids to school any day I wanted. And I got to pick them up any day I wanted, too. I got to walk out of my garage office and hang out with my kids in the middle of the day in the summer.”

Louie gets to spend time with his kids whenever he wants. He has full autonomy over his time. His career is now supporting his lifestyle, not suffocating it. 

By writing online, Louie found what money couldn’t buy: true freedom.
