YC's Group Partners share tips on how to get things done

This Week at YC

October 10, 2023

Lots going on at YC right now! Here’s what’s been up:

  • YC is growing. Last week we announced Pete Koomen (co-founder of Optimizely) has become a Group Partner, and we welcomed Tyler Bosmeny (co-founder of Clever) and Nate Smith (co-founder of Lever) as Visiting Group Partners. Learn more about them here!

  • Tomorrow (October 11th) we’re hosting a co-founder matching event in San Francisco for aspiring GenAI founders to meet each other. The guest list is getting pretty full, but you can still request a spot here.

  • The deadline for applying (on time) for YC’s Winter 2024 batch is this Friday, October 13th.

Are you considering applying, but something is holding you back? I often think back to this video from Dalton. Particularly this bit:

“Certain people are luckier than others. But one way you can create luck and become luckier is to put yourself out there more. To create this luck, you need to take risks; you can systematically put yourself out there to be in situations where good things can happen to you.

On the flip side, if you avoid situations where you face rejection — like applying to YC — you’re reducing the surface area to get lucky.”

This isn’t something Dalton said as a feel-good thing for a video; I’ve heard him repeat this “creating luck” philosophy to founders many times over the years, and it’s a sound one. If you want to be lucky, you have to create opportunities for lucky things to happen. Apply here.

YC’s Group Partners share advice on getting things done

There's only so many hours in a day and running a startup will require most of them. But putting in a lot of time doesn't always mean getting a lot done.

For this episode of Office Hours, YC's Group Partners are talking about productivity — what works best for the founders they help, and, perhaps more importantly, what doesn’t work.
