How would you grow a butcher biz? This member has some ideas...

First, let us assure you, that while this segment is about a butcher biz, the lessons are relevant for carnivores and vegetarians alike. Cool? Cool.

So one of our members recently started looking into buying a butcher biz 👇

Now, before he even got into the deets, another member chimed in recommending some sharp due diligence questions you might find interesting, like:

• Do they have partnerships with restaurants locally?
• What's the local culture around it?
• How many different farms supply the meats?
• Like a restaurant, your inventory expires. Are you comfortable with that kind of risk?
• Would you eventually acquire a baker and candle stick maker too?

... And, importantly, "I wonder how to expand or grow that type of business."

• Growth strategy: "Online sales would be the main push for expansion. Develop a meat club with events and a subscription model."
• Life strategy: "This type of biz plugs into the second phase of my life regarding buying land and starting a small-scale farming enterprise in livestock." (How cool is that?!)

• Meat Raffle Mondays: Host a weekly Monday raffle where customers can win different cuts of meat. (We can already see it: "Don't be a chicken – join the raffle!")

• Steak Selfies: Encourage customers to take a selfie with their favorite cut of steak, share it on social media, and tag the shop to win a free steak.

• Meat & Greet: Host a monthly event where local farmers, customers, and perhaps a cow can come together to sample beef and schmooze.

If you've ever looked into buying a small biz, you know a key factor of any acquisition can be the transitionary period in which an old owner trains a new one.

But sometimes that period is just way too short. So, one of our members is rightfully curious about how to make it longer and more effective 👇

According to one member, "They don't seem to have a lot of deals yet, but they've raised some capital and look to be growing. I checked out the founders on LinkedIn and they have some great backgrounds, but this is definitely in startup mode."

Task management tools:

• Notion or Trello are both highly recommended. There are many pre-made templates, too. (You can search "Notion template for X" on Google, and adjust the X accordingly.)

• But... "Most productivity tools end up being procrastination tools without an underlying system," says one member. "I don't recommend using tech tools like Notion etc, until you have an analog system that works for you to plan projects and keep track of everything."
