Can you believe we're already wrapping up 2023? Before so many of us set our emails to Out of Office, we figured we’d send you our quick UX predictions for 2024.

Let’s start with some non-crystal ball dependent, real stats:

88% of online shoppers aren’t likely to return to a site after a bad user experience. (Zippia)
Every $1 invested in UX results in a return of $100 (that’s an ROI of 9,900%). (Forrester)
94% of first impressions are design-related. (Stanford)

With that in mind, here’s what 15+ years in UX and a sprinkle of a crystal ball predict for 2024:

1. Democratization of product design: We’ve been saying it for years—the best products are built from lots of different perspectives. More companies are now embracing this, involving non-designers in UX, from internal tools to customer-facing products.

We expect to see even more blurred lines between product and engineering, or product and product marketing. Sounds like a perfect use case for Balsamiq!

2. Anticipatory design: Anticipatory design will become more prevalent, moving beyond current user needs and hyper-personalization to predict future preferences.

We think that this will get easier for some companies with how AI developments are going!

3. More conversational interfaces: AI is making chat interfaces more than just chat. They’re evolving to handle complex tasks like trip planning or reservations that are custom to you. So instead of just googling an itinerary, now a chat could plan one for you in a specialized app.

4. UX is CX is Growth is…: There's a growing realization that customer experience (CX) – encompassing UX, marketing, operations, and growth all interconnects. Companies are finally seeing how great UX influences the entire customer journey.

5. UX as a competitive advantage: Good UX isn’t just nice to have; it’s a growth engine. It helps products differentiate, and internal tools become more efficient.

In certain industries, this is an opportunity for some serious market disruption.
