I’m saddened to report that we’re still short of tomorrow’s goal

I’ve been reporting on grassroots politics for 15 years and just published my second book on political outsiders. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: Every dollar and every supporter counts when you’re taking on the powers that be.

That’s just as true here at The Intercept.

Sadly, this has been a tough year for journalism. Many of our peers have been forced to make serious cuts or shut down entirely. Nonprofits like us aren’t immune from the squeeze: Charitable giving across the U.S. dropped sharply in 2023.
