The Hustle - The Hustle: An Origin Story

Remember 2014?

The Summer Olympics were samba-dancing their way through Rio and San Francisco still had studio apartments for under $3,500. On the outskirts (read: Inner Richmond) of that very city, Sam Parr had just sold the business he co-founded and was looking for a new challenge.

Slingin’ moonshine online? Been there, done that, wrote the e-book.

Selling street hot dogs to hungry tourists? Fun, but not worth the sunburn.

Hold a conference? That’s something new…

So, Sam put together and started promoting an event for non-technical founders called Hustle Con.

One thing led to another, and soon Hustle Con netted him $40K -- and a whole bunch of email addresses.

He also noticed people loved the fun promotional emails he was blasting out. Like, seriously loved. In fact, readers loved them so much, Sam decided to turn it into the daily email you’re reading today.

Now, The Hustle’s got a 1m+ readers, Hustle Con is still going strong -- get your tickets for this year's event here -- and we’re launching cool new products like Trends: A premium subscription and community of ambitious go-getters.

It’s been a wild ride, complete with two dozen office changes, some trolley parties, and the occasional visit from Philadelphia Eagles.

We’re glad you hopped on board, because (barring our office peanut butter addiction driving us straight into bankruptcy) we’re not stopping any time soon.
