I remember reading advice columns years ago that said once you get older, you should spend more on your bedding. Afraid of stains or dryer disasters, I resisted for a long time. How different could nicer sheets be than those available from the big-box stores?

1. The variety.
   Living in a place that experiences all four seasons, I like having a selection of bedding options to keep us comfortable at night. Brooklinen offers a variety of fabric choices to suit the temperature and texture you prefer. During the summer, their washed linen options help us stay cool without A/C. During the spring and autumn, their classic percale bedding provides just enough warmth without making us sweat. And for the coldest months of the year, they have a brushed flannel set for extra coziness.

2. The convenience.
   I have no problem paying extra for bedding, as long as it doesn’t require any special steps when it comes to maintenance. I’m not sending out my sheets for dry cleaning or ironing them. Wrinkles be damned. All of my Brooklinen items can be washed at my usual temperature (40°C) and then either hung or tumbled dry without shrinkage. In fact, like a great t-shirt, the more you wash them, the softer they get. Using our linen sheets and quilt all summer has made them our favorite set by far.

3. The quality.
   When you spend more, you should get more. As I mentioned above, all of our Brooklinen items wash up beautifully and have survived hot summer nights and dog messes of all sorts. Since this is the most I’ve ever spent on bedding, I was a little precious with them to begin with, but I didn’t have to be. They use 100% long-staple cotton, which is spun into single-ply yarn, making it very strong but still soft and luxurious. The colors have also stayed true and I know I’ll be bringing them all along on our next move.
