FBA rollup Thrasio files for bankruptcy [Crew Review]

Hey Reader,

When the pandemic happened, the world of e-commerce saw a significant boost in demand. During this time, Amazon FBA businesses were booming and companies known as FBA aggregators or rollups grabbed the opportunity and bought more brands to add to their portfolio.

Now, one of those top Amazon aggregators, Thrasio, is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Chapter 11 bankruptcy allows companies to continue operating and, at the discretion of the court, borrow more money. In its filing, Thrasio asked the court to shave off about $495 million in debt and defer its payment and stated that it received commitments for $90 million in new financing.

Despite filing for bankruptcy, Thrasio will continue to operate as usual.

In 2022, the company laid off 20% of its workforce and appointed a new CEO. This was one of the first signs of Thrasio’s struggles to keep up with the costs of running a business that was declining in demand.

If you want to know which FBA aggregators have survived the post-COVID business challenges, we’ve rounded up the active and merged Amazon FBA rollups in 2024.

Banned from Parliament

Amazon’s lobbyists are now banned by the European Parliament. This comes after failing to attend a hearing about working conditions and rejecting a request for a tour inside its fulfillment centers.

It was Dragoș Pîslaru, the chair of the Parliament’s Committee on Employment and Social Affairs, who requested the ban. He said that Amazon was not treating the parliament seriously and thinks that the company is not giving them the respect due to it. “You cannot just say that your senior representatives are not available when the parliament is asking you,” Pîslaru states.

This is not the first time that the Parliament has considered banning the company’s lobbyists. In 2021, the issue also came up after Amazon rejected another hearing on working conditions.

In an official statement, Amazon said that it is open to scrutiny and reminds the public that it had attended various parliamentary hearings before. However, they acknowledge their non-attendance in some of them, calling the most recent one “clearly one-sided and not designed to encourage constructive debate or objective scrutiny.”

The ban may be lifted in the future after Amazon shows its genuine willingness to cooperate.

Have Your TikToks Gone Silent?

TikTok has the power to make a song go viral and revive decades-old tracks, with some of them seeing more success today than when they were first released.

However, users are noting that some of their videos have gone silent.

This is because TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, failed to reach a deal with Universal Music Group (UMG) over royalties. As a result, all songs that are connected with UMG have to be muted on the platform. This includes all songs that are written or co-written by a writer signed to UMG, no matter how small their contribution is.

This may affect the promotional TikTok posts for your e-commerce brand. So if your brand heavily uses TikTok for its marketing campaigns, check your previous posts and decide if you need to re-record your content.
