They said it was impossible and couldn't be done.


He proved them wrong and built an 8-figure SaaS company.


- No one gets excited about backup software.
- It's not exactly a "cool" business to be in.
- That's what Simon Taylor thought too.


But by the end of that evening's conversation with Goran Garevski.
Simon was excited about building an "Uber for data protection".


They assembled a team of engineers to design the platform.


- It had never been done before.
- It seemed like an impossible task.

But marketing and sales were incredibly challenging.


- Cold calling failed, risking their brand's reputation and trust.
- Attracting customers away from competitors was difficult.
- Focusing on simplicity to differentiate was a tough sell.


Fast-forward to today, their company HYCU, Inc.:


- Protects 4,000 customers in 78 countries
- Has grown to around 300 employees
- Generates 8-figures in ARR
- Has raised $140 million


Key lessons?


1. Hire smarter people to build a great product.
2. Have unique messaging, but don't confuse customers.
3. Focus on problems you solve, not your product's features.
4. Learn and adjust from mistakes quickly, like with cold calling.
