How the Hanged Man Represents the State of the Fact Acceptance MovementThis is just the start of what is yet to come. What are your thoughts on the modern-day Fat Acceptance Movement? I will share my thoughts later in this article, and if you know about the Hanged Man, you may wonder what this card would have to do with that. Hear me out. Before I get into that, let's talk a little about the Hanged Man. The Hanged Man Tarot Card in a NutshellThe Hanged Man is one of the most intriguing cards in the tarot deck. It can represent a range of meanings, from sacrifice and martyrdom to new beginnings and spiritual rebirth. In addition, the Hanged Man often signifies a time of transition, when you are forced to let go of old ways of thinking and being. This can be a complicated process, but it is also an opportunity for growth and transformation. The Hanged Man reminds you that sometimes you need to surrender to move forward. The planet associated with this card is Neptune. If you look at this card in the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, you see that the hanged man is a man suspended from wood, and you know the shape of the T-cross. He is hanging upside down and views the world differently than standing up. He seems relaxed and calm as he is not being forced to turn upside down, as he chose to do so. His right foot is attached to the tree, his left foot is hanging free, and his hands are behind his back as his arms are bent. Looking at his head, you see a halo around it, representing awareness and enlightenment. He is wearing red-colored pants, which means he is passionate, and his vest is blue, which means he is knowledgeable. Whatever he does is for the greater good, which means making a significant sacrifice. Being drawn to the Hanged Man card may signify that you are ready to let go of something no longer serving you. It could be an outdated belief system, an unhealthy relationship, or a destructive behavior pattern. The Hanged Man asks you to be willing to make changes, even if difficult, such as overcoming echoism. The Hanged Man often suggests a time for reflection and contemplation in a reading. This is a time to explore your inner world and see what needs to be released or transformed. Be patient and let the process unfold in its own time. There is no need to rush things. The Hanged Man asks you to be patient and trust the process, even if things don't seem to be making much progress. He also reminds you to stay open to new possibilities, even if they seem far-fetched or unlikely. Above all, the Hanged Man encourages you to surrender to the journey and let go of your need for control. Now that you have that, I will go on about the Fat Acceptance Movement and how the Hanged Man relates to what has been happening within that movement lately. What Is Happening with the Fat Acceptance Movement?Back in the '60s and '70s, the Fat Acceptance Movement was established to help destigmatize those who were not thin; it had a great purpose, as these movements always do when they are first established. As someone who has struggled with weight since pretty much day one, I appreciate a movement that would help destigmatize that because people struggle with obesity for various reasons. However, over time, it became perverted, and it started getting nasty in the 2010s. I am sure that plus-size model Tess Holiday played a significant role in what it became today. It went from discouraging discrimination and erasing stigmas toward those who were overweight to glorifying obesity! I mean, wtf??? The Fat Acceptance community glorifies obesity and says, "You can be healthy at any size," which is wrong! They also say "intentional weight loss is fatphobic," as they have a severe hatred towards those who are on a weight loss journey and also say that if you eat sensibly and stay active, you are "giving into diet culture." This movement has been perverted from the original intention as those in it have lost their minds, except for those who deliberately left it. That is where the Hanged Man is relevant. I have listened to many commentators who review creators in the community; their rhetoric is ridiculous, as I have mentioned. However, many who were once very much into the movement are leaving. Even Tess Holiday is on a diet! And it is believed that the movement is crumbling. However, why would anyone who was a staunch fat activist suddenly decide to leave the movement? Well, perhaps they may have had a health scare and knew that the lies they told themselves and others, such as "being healthy at any size," have been proven to be untrue. Perhaps their doctors warned them they could be in serious trouble if they did not lose weight. Maybe they already had a scare, such as diabetes, hypertension, or something worse. Those who have left the movement and decided to get healthy have had to make significant sacrifices and were forced to change their perspectives. They had to sacrifice their role in the movement, and if they were YouTube, Instagram, or TikTok creators, they had to sacrifice their identity and even income for their health. They also were in a position where they had to choose but to see that their bad decisions and the lies they were telling themselves and others about how "they could be healthy at any size" were wrong, and they had to change their perspective about health. They had to change their viewpoint about clean eating, being active, and losing weight for health reasons and stop comparing it to a toxic diet culture. That is a lot to give up. However, since many of those in this toxic movement are leaving for this reason, they are making many sacrifices, which is for the better. Esoteric Relations the Hanged Man Has To Other CardsNeptune rules the Hanged Man, and it is all about the water element. The Chariot, also ruled by water (Cancer), Death, ruled by water (Scorpio), and the Moon, ruled by water (Pisces), ruled by Neptune, have a connection. The Hanged Man is about making sacrifices and changing your perspective as you do. Chariot is all about drive; suddenly, you are driven to go after something, which means you are willing to sacrifice things that can get in the way of what you are after. Death results from the sacrifices you have made if the Fat Acceptance Movement does eventually become obsolete due to so many seeing how toxic it is that would be fitting with Death. We aren't there yet, but I bet one day, it will happen. The Moon forces you to look into your psyche, which is why you would make that sacrifice, which would alter your perspective. Regarding numerology, the Hanged Man is 12/3, a spiritual number of completion and growth, and the root three is also creation. The Empress is the third card, the nurturer, and you must make sacrifices to nurture yourself or others. The World is 21/3 represents the rewards you earned for putting in the work and sacrifices to complete the cycle. Graduating from anything is rewarding. The entire Cup suit is tied to the Hanged Man because of the water element. With the Ace of Cups, you are in love, a change of perspective that requires a sacrifice if you were not in love with that thing or individual. It is a new love. The Two of Cups is all about a loving or emotional relationship; you must make compromises to make a relationship work. The Three of Cups is about friendships or creations that require sacrifices. The Four of Cups is a sign that you are bored and need a change of perspective or may need to make new sacrifices to change something, requiring introspection. The Five of Cups is all about disappointment, which is how you will feel if you have to give something up initially. Six of Cups is all about nostalgia, so you find happiness in the pleasant things from the past if things are not going well right now. Seven of Cups is about having too many options, which will require you to sacrifice once you choose. The Eight of Cups is about sacrificing by walking away from what does not serve you. The Nine of Cups is getting the wish after you have made sacrifices or found blessings in the small things. Finally, the Ten of Cups is the card of happiness, which also means you are with a supportive group based on the sacrifices you make for them, and they give back as well. The next one is Death so that I will go over that next week. You’re currently a free subscriber to Miriam Reads Tarot . For the full experience, upgrade your subscription.
