Trevor McKendrick - I'll go where you want me to go

Good morning,

Let’s make this week the best week!

Trevor

God is the Gardner (article)

This is a commencement speech given at BYU in 1968 by one of the leaders of the Mormon church.

Reading it for me is one of the best example of what we are all missing without religion in our lives.

The feeling of being part of something so much bigger than yourself. Something going back thousands of years that gives every moment of your life direction and intention.

There's a Mormon hymn quoted in the speech called I’ll go where you want me to go:

It may not be on the mountain height

Or over the stormy sea,

It may not be at the battle’s front

My Lord will have need of me.

I’ll go where you want me to go, dear Lord,

I’ll be what you want me to be.

The power of the hymn is that it gives everyone – everyone – status.

It doesn’t matter if you’re the guy pouring the concrete for the church, or if you’re at the top of the hierarchy… it’s right there in the book you sing every week: you have a place here, and your place here is important.

That is so sorely missing today in basically every secular version of society I’m aware of. Even worse, I know of no potential replacements or decent ideas. I’d love to hear them if you have them.

First case reports of cadaver-to-human transmission of Alzheimer's disease (article)

I had no idea Alzheimer’s was even a transmissible disease.

”Wasting your time doubting whether you’re going to be successful is pointless.” (tweet)

The quote is from Kobe Bryant, and the link has a 57 second video of the rest of his idea.

Solar panels are so cheap some European homes are using them as garden fences (tweet + link to FT article)

I had no idea the world had made so much progress in solar. For example, did you know that during the day California is powered mostly by solar?
