Bridging Gaps is an NGO which provides microloans for entrepreneurs from the Global South to establish their own businesses by raising donations from the Global North. They're working with local partners in 5 different countries to co-create community microlending initiatives, based on donations which are converted into interest-free loans, and recently partnered with UNHCR to scale this work to empower 60 local refugee entrepreneurs to start their social businesses in Uganda. They're running a fascinating fellowship for young professionals across the world: Bridging Gaps Fundraising Fellowship.

Curated with our partners ImaginePod, who share The Bloom's vision to dismantle the taboo of money, and social impact careers 💚💸
3 years ago, reading one of The Bloom's newsletters sparked Roopan Gill, an obstetrician gynecologist in family planning and abortion care, to reach out to our team for an introduction to a feminist leader we featured working on abortion care in Latin America. What started as a small email exchange organically bloomed into a multi-year partnership and thousands of lives impacted 🤎 Roopan's organization, Vitala Global, scaled across the globe to co-create and implement digital sexual and reproductive health solutions; achieving milestone partnerships and recognitions in an incredibly stigmatized field. Here's an overview of Roopan and her team's impact: 🎉Recognized by the World Health Organization as one of the top five "innovative and locally relevant abortion programs." 🎉Featured in top-notch media outlets like BBC, Forbes, and Fast Company. 🎉 Proud partners with Planned Parenthood Federation of America. 🎉Winners of the 2024 SXSW Innovation Award for Community Empowerment!
The Bloom has scaled alongside Vitala Global, and their team has become like family –with thousands of bloomers applying to dream roles through Vitala, and multiple phenomenal hires coming directly from The Bloom. Their growth has in turn impacted the lives of the 42,000 social impact leaders in The Bloom, creating employment opportunities and educational resources drastically missing in mass markets for women and girls. That's why we're thrilled to leverage our platform at The Bloom to support Vitala's critical fundraising moment 💸 In July, Vitala's new grant cycle starts, and meanwhile, their team wants to stay together preparing to hit the ground running. Reach out to team@readtobloom.com to hear from Roopan the behind-the-scenes successes and challenges, and the next exciting stage to ensure a world where all women and girls have the freedom to make judgment-free choices to achieve their sexual and reproductive health goals.☀️

Aspiring impact entrepreneurs in The Bloom, this one is for you 🌹This fully-funded fellowship is a 16-week program for entrepreneurs seeking to elevate their ventures with access to a global network, skills trainings, and mentorship with seasoned professionals, venture capitalists, and executives. We sat down with one of their fellows to get a behind-the-scenes take on the impact of joining 🤎
☀️ Social impact entrepreneur spotlight I'm a 23-year-old student-entrepreneur and consultant from Argentina. I work in process improvement and sustainability, supporting companies in their goals to enhance efficiency. We focus on enhancing processes across various industries and aiding companies in becoming B Corporations by setting improvement goals and obtaining certification. That's my 9 to 5. After that, I'm also involved in a couple of other projects. My main venture is Intisoler, and I also attend college, studying business administration in the evenings.
🚀 Venture built and scaled through fellowship: Intisoler is a nonprofit organization where we support and assist families in remote areas to access hot water through solar systems. Currently, we focus on solar water heaters, with plans to expand into the broader solar ecosystem, providing solar panels and other forms of energy. It's about empowering these communities.
💙 Impact of joining the fellowship: I got involved in Intisoler through the Watson Institute, specifically, the Venture Accelerator I participated in 2022. Before that, I received a scholarship due to winning an award for one of my projects related to cryptocurrencies. However, when the crypto market crashed, the project fell apart. So, entering the Venture Accelerator, I was exploring different ideas. There, through the Watson Institute program, I met my co-founder, Yurei. She had a strong desire to assist Peruvian communities after a visit revealed they had computers provided by the government but lacked electricity to use them effectively. It seemed illogical. Given my engineering background and Spanish fluency, I was a good fit. So, we teamed up and started working on Intisoler thanks to this fellowship!
