You don’t usually hear from me, but my name is Michael Sherrard, and I’m the person at The Intercept in charge of making sure we meet our reader fundraising goals. I’m writing to you today because we’re in the middle of one of our most important fundraising drives ever. Our goal is to sign up 3,000 new monthly donors by April 30 — and so far we still have almost 2,000 to go. Here’s the situation: From the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza, The Intercept has been one of the only U.S news outlets to cover the war without routinely devaluing Palestinian lives. While other major news outlets like the Associated Press, MSNBC, and the New York Times fired, canceled, or sidelined reporters who dared to question Israel’s response to October 7, we ramped up our reporting about an ongoing slaughter that the International Court of Justice found to be a “plausible genocide.” The good news is that we’ve seen a tremendous response from readers: traffic and reader donations both spiked in the early weeks of the war. But of course there are no corporate advertisers clamoring to fund hard-hitting reporting that criticizes Israel’s U.S.-backed siege of Gaza — and sadly there are no giant foundations or billionaire philanthropists stepping forward to enable this expanded coverage. That’s why The Intercept is one of the only places you can find reporting that tells the truth about how the U.S. enables Israel’s atrocities — and also why we depend on the committed support of regular monthly donors to continue producing it. If you’ve saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: Thank you, Michael Sherrard
