Starter Story - "you been working out?"

Let me get this out of the way:

I am not a fitness guru 😆

If you’ve ever seen me in person, then you've probably thought to yourself:

That boy is all skin and bones.

(and a bit of fat, too)

But.. since January 1, I've been hitting the gym.

Nothing crazy. 3 times a week. Staying in the kiddy zone.

I have no idea what I'm doing.

And I have no idea if it's working.

Until last weekend... when I visited some old college friends in Los Angeles.

We decided to really bro-out and hit the cold plunge.

I’ve never done it – so I HAD TO.

Spoiler: that sh*t is hard.

Anyway, when I took my shirt off, one of my friends looked and me and asked:

“Dude, you been working out?”

It was such a minor comment. We didn’t even talk about it for very long.

But this comment made my month.

Yes, I have been working out.

And actually, it's first time in my life I've consistently hit the gym for more than 30 days in a row.

I am a f*king n00b and I suck at it, but hearing that comment made it all worth it.

It validated all of those times I didn’t want to show up to the gym.

Or when I felt embarrassed about the weights I was lifting.

Or when I felt dumb because some guy asked me to spot him and then yelled at me for touching his weights 🤣

It wasn’t easy. But I kept showing up.

And the results are f*king miniscule (look at me).

But... this was the first time anyone actually noticed.

And then... it hit me:

This whole weightlifting journey I'm on right now is the exact same process as my business journey.

(especially in the early days)

Most days, it felt like I made zero progress.

Most weeks, I didn't notice any changes at all.

But I kept showing up:

– Even when I didn't want to.
– Even when I was embarrassed.
– Even when I was tired.

6 months went by, and then all of a sudden I made my first $1.

Then 12 months went by, and I'd just handed in my resignation at work!

Then a couple years went by and I had built a business that changed my life!

Reality check: I'm only 4 months into this weightlifting thing. I'm barely even getting started.

Imagine what that might look like in 8 more months?

Yes, building a successful business has some components of luck.

And it helps to be really smart and have rich parents.

(i have neither of these)

But... you have no control over those things.

There's only ONE thing you can actually control: showing up every day.

99% of people quit before they even give themselves a chance to succeed.

Part of winning the game is simply staying in the game.
