Reddit & Forums Are Rich With Great Marketing Info And Promotional Opportunities

Okay before you all scream at me that promotion in forums and Reddit boards is a big no-no, I agree. But participating and offering help when it comes up isn't. That's what I mean by promotional opportunities.

Spraying and praying in forums and Reddits IS VERY BAD FORM. That's why I tell my clients to participate and add value well before you offer a promotion or ask for something from the group.

It's a long game. But it will pay off, if done right!

Forums to look at not reserved to just your industry specifically. Lots of Reddits and even the Fediverse versions (like Lemmy) are great places to learn about different topics that can help you grow your knowledge and influence as well.

Just spend the time. Just 30 minutes to an hour a day. You'll be amazed how much knowledge you'll get and how much more traction you will get on your initiatives.

Here's some tips on getting the most out of Reddit and other similar communities:

Reddit Especially, Is A Goldmine

Reddit is a unique platform that offers various opportunities for marketers, but it requires a careful and delicate approach to engage effectively with its community. Here's some tips for using Reddit (this applies to other communities online as well) for marketing purposes:

Understand the Community

Reddit is made up of a vast number of subreddits, each with its own culture, norms, and expectations. Before posting, spend time lurking in these communities to understand what content is appreciated and how members interact with each other.

Engage Authentically

Reddit users value authenticity and transparency. Any marketing effort should be upfront and honest. But definitely keep from overly promotional content as it can lead to negative feedback and even bans from subreddits.

Provide Value

Your posts should contribute value to the discussions in relevant subreddits. This could be through informative posts, engaging discussions, or helpful responses in threads. Value-driven content is more likely to be upvoted and less likely to be seen as spam.

Use AMAs Wisely

"Ask Me Anything" (AMA) sessions are popular and can be a great way to engage with the community. Ensure that the session is genuine and not just focused on promoting a product or service. The AMA should be relevant to the subreddit's interests and provide insightful and detailed answers to the community's questions.

Follow Subreddit Rules

Each subreddit has its own set of rules displayed on the sidebar. Abide by these rules when posting or commenting to avoid getting muted or banned. This includes rules about self-promotion and the types of content that can be posted.

Monitor and Measure Success

Keep track of engagement metrics such as upvotes, comments, and subreddit growth if you're managing a brand-specific subreddit. These metrics will help you gauge the effectiveness of your Reddit marketing strategy

Consider Reddit Ads

If organic engagement is challenging, consider using Reddit's advertising platform. Reddit ads can target specific subreddits, making it easier to reach a relevant audience. Ensure your ads are engaging and fit the casual tone of the platform and the individual sub-Reddits.

Be Prepared for Backlash

Reddit users are known for their outspoken nature. Be prepared to handle criticism and feedback constructively. Engaging positively with critics can sometimes turn a negative situation into a positive one.

Continuously Engage

Don't just post and forget. Reddit values community interaction. Regularly engage with comments on your posts and participate in other threads and discussions within the subreddit. This can be challenging to stay up on, but the dividends are worth it.

Leverage User-Generated Content

Encourage and leverage user-generated content when appropriate. This could involve contests, user stories, or discussions that prompt users to share their own experiences and content related to your brand.

The researchers at the University of New South Wales Sydney claim that their ultrasonic extraction held up to a “sensory analysis” and blind taste tests by trained experts: “A sensory analysis was conducted to evaluate appearance, aroma, texture, flavor, and aftertaste, which demonstrated that coffee brewed for 1 and 3 min in the sonoreactor exhibited almost undistinguishable properties compared to a standard 24 hour [cold] brewing without ultrasound,” they write in a paper about the method in the journal Ultrasonics Sonochemistry.
