One of my favorite business models right now is simple online tool sites. They’re easy and quick to build, and can generate good revenue once they start getting traffic.

The only problem is that most online tool niches are very competitive. Good luck ranking on the first page of Google for “gpa calculator”!

So, I decided to find some online tool niches that have little competition.

To do this, I went to Site Stats Database, entered “calculator”, “converter”, and “generator” in the Niche filter, set the domain registration date to 2022 or newer, and sorted by highest traffic.

This brought up a list of online tool sites that are less than 2 and a half years old, getting decent traffic. When a new site gets lots of traffic, that’s a great indicator that the niche it’s in has little competition.

There were over 100 results, but a few really stood out as super simple and easy to build.

One of those was randomfactgenerator.com.

It’s a super-simple 4-page site that just shows you random facts.

As you can see from the screenshot, it’s monetized with ads. They also probably make a bit from Amazon Associates, as the Trivia Resources page links to some products on Amazon.

According to SimilarWeb (which measures all traffic sources, not just Google organic like Ahrefs), Random Fact Generator gets close to 70,000 visitors per month, and it’s growing fast.

Not bad for a two-year old site with a domain authority of just 5.

And not bad at all for a site that probably took less than a day to build.

I expected the “random facts” niche to be quite competitive, but apparently it’s not! Just search “random fact generator” in Google and you’ll see.

The top result is this random fact generator (.com) site, with a DA of 5. In the 9th position (at least for me) is a site on a .weebly subdomain, with an Ahrefs DR of 0!

It wouldn’t take much SEO work to rank in the top 10 for this keyword.

How to build a random fact generator site

If you don’t know how to code, just use WordPress and get some help in the coding department from ChatGPT.

For the facts, either collect them yourself or save time and ask ChatGPT to provide a list of 50 fun/weird/interesting facts. Keep asking it to provide more until you’re satisfied with the amount.

Put that list of facts on a page, just like this: https://www.randomfactgenerator.com/facts

Next, ask ChatGPT to code a random fact generator that pulls a random fact out of the list. Add this generator to your site’s homepage. If you’re not sure how, just ask ChatGPT to walk you through it.

Done. That should take you around 30 minutes.

Warning

I strongly recommend building a random generator site in a different niche. If everyone suddenly builds a random fact generator site, you’ll have stiff competition.

“Random facts” is just one out of thousands of online tools you can build. You’ll probably have a better chance of success by finding a different low-competition tool niche.

I mentioned earlier that I found a few tool sites that stood out to me as being easy to build and in low competition niches on Site Stats Database.
