WHAT’S SHAKING THE INDUSTRY

SEO:

  • Google’s March 2024 Core Update finished rolling out on April 19, resulting in visibility boosts for several of our clients (particularly in the e-commerce and education sectors).
  • Meta launched a new AI assistant and desktop experience to incorporate real-time search results from Google and Bing.
  • Google began the full roll-out of Gemini-powered AI search results, aka AI Overviews.
  • The Google SEO document leak gave us an unprecedented glimpse into Google's ranking algorithm.
  • Google is rolling out a new social profile feature that will allow you to view, manage, and share written reviews across Google’s various platforms.

Organic Social Media:

  • U.S. President Joe Biden signed the proposed TikTok sell-off bill into law, giving the social platform 270 days to find a U.S.-based owner or be banned in the nation.
  • Video continues to drive massive engagement. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Reels now make up 50% of the time users spend on Instagram. Meanwhile, TikTok started testing 60-minute videos with limited users in select markets.

Cross-Channel Marketing:

  • Google now offers generative image tools in Demand Gen campaigns to create high-quality image assets by providing text prompts.
  • Google postponed third-party cookie deprecation in Chrome to 2025 due to regulatory scrutiny from the U.K. Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), industry stakeholders, obstacles with Google’s Privacy Sandbox, and the need for further testing.

Paid Advertising:

  • Google introduced 6 new AI features for Performance Max campaigns and announced plans to expand their relationships with streaming providers to increase placement options for DV360 buyers.
  • Microsoft introduced Click ID, enabling advertisers to track conversions from their site without the Microsoft third-party cookie.
  • Meta added a new audience insight and targeting option within its Advantage+ Shopping Campaigns, which will enable you to target people that have shown an interest in your products or services but have not yet made a purchase.
  • LinkedIn announced its own version of connected TV ads while adding a new format to promote live events.
  • TikTok revealed new AI and automation tools for advertisers, designed to help brands create effective ads more efficiently at scale.
