5-Bullet Friday — Richard Feynman, Music for Flow, AI Eye-Poppers, The Most Brutal Great American Novel, and a Quote to Wake You Up

Hi All! Here is your weekly dose of 5-Bullet Friday, a list of what I’m pondering and exploring. Feel free to forward along if the spirit moves you. This edition is brought to you by AG1. Be sure to see their offer in the P.S. Album I’m enjoyingPanamericana by Federico Aubele. I wrote much of The 4-Hour Body to this album, and I still listen to it often, especially when winding down after a long day or full week. Novel I’m readingBlood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy. Want to get out of the news cycle? To stretch your mind with both profound beauty and discomfort? Try Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy, selected by The Atlantic as one of the great American novels of the past 100 years. It’s not often that you come across endorsements like the following from Michael Herr: “A classic American novel of regeneration through violence. McCarthy can only be compared to our greatest writers, with Melville and Faulkner, and this is his masterpiece.” Desktop app I’m testingChatGPT on your desktop. Function: “Chat about email, screenshots, files, and anything on your screen.” The main reason I installed it was to create a keyboard shortcut, much like you might use Spotlight on Mac: “Option + Space opens ChatGPT from any screen on your desktop.” This allows me to quickly query ChatGPT for anything. It’s a lot faster than going to a separate new tab for Google. Documentary I’m revisitingThe Fantastic Mr. Feynman. This is my favorite documentary of one of my favorite people, Richard Feynman. His lectures and books—such as “Surely You’re Joking, Mr. Feynman!”: Adventures of a Curious Character—have greatly inspired many of my best decisions in life. He also inspired me to teach. I hope you enjoy the film as much as I did. Whether you like bongo drums, safe cracking, or physics, there is something for everyone. Quote I’m pondering“Old George Orwell got it backward. Big Brother isn’t watching. He’s singing and dancing. He’s pulling rabbits out of a hat. Big Brother’s busy holding your attention every moment you’re awake. He’s making sure you’re always distracted. He’s making sure you’re fully absorbed. He’s making sure your imagination withers. Until it’s as useful as your appendix. He’s making sure your attention is always filled. And this being fed, it’s worse than being watched. With the world always filling you, no one has to worry about what’s in your mind. With everyone’s imagination atrophied, no one will ever be a threat to the world.” You can complement this edition of 5-Bullet Friday with my interview with Chuck Palahniuk, this list of some of my favorite documentaries, and the latest super-combo podcast episode, featuring Terry Crews and Richard Koch. P.S. Deal of the Week — AG1!I get asked all the time, “If you could use only one supplement, what would it be?” My answer is usually AG1, my all-in-one nutritional insurance. I recommended it in The 4-Hour Body in 2010 and didn’t get paid to do so. I focus on nutrient-dense meals, of course, but AG1 further covers the nutritional gaps in my diet. With AG1, you get a high-quality multivitamin and multimineral, pre- and probiotics, adaptogens, greens, and more, providing you a cost-efficient way to consolidate your supplement stack into one product for less than $3.00 per day. Rather than taking multiple pills or products to cover your mental clarity, gut health, immune health, energy, etc., you can support these areas through one daily scoop of AG1, which tastes great, even with water. AG1 in single-serve travel packs also makes for the perfect travel companion. |
