5-Bullet Friday — Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman Make My Week, How to Sell 50,000 Books with Self-Publishing, The Art of Being Stubborn, Molly’s New Water Bottle, and More

Hi All! Here is your weekly dose of 5-Bullet Friday, a list of what I’m pondering and exploring. I threw in an extra bullet because my cup of love overfloweth. Feel free to forward along if the spirit moves you. This edition is brought to you by Momentous, my go-to source for creatine and whey protein. Be sure to see their offer in the P.S. What made my week“Deadpool & Wolverine & The Bachelorette” by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Even in my wildest dreams, I never could’ve seen this one coming. What a great surprise! New Paul Graham essay I’m reading“The Right Kind of Stubborn.” I especially like the first half of this essay plus the synopsis in the last two paragraphs. Great distinctions to keep in mind, such that you keep an open mind. Case study I’m digging into“How I sold 50,000 copies of my self-published book.” If you prefer reading, Paul also shares the details of royalties and sales per platform (Kindle, Audible, etc.) in this blog post. The full breakdown is under the “Money, Money, Money” subheading. I personally found the real-world examples of self-publishing vs. traditional publishing economics most interesting, and the “Mistakes” section is worth heeding for anyone considering self-publishing. What I’m using when hiking with MollySpringer Dog Water Bottle. If it’s hot or humid, my dear Molly pup gets parched. I bring water on hikes, but it’s always been at least 50% for naught. I pour it in my cupped hands and lose nearly all of it. Or if I use a collapsible bowl, she’ll drink a few sips and waste the rest. The Springer travel water bottle solves all of these problems. There are many other companies that make similar products, and I’m sure some are great, but this model was gifted to me and delivers. I have the Growler (44 oz) in Sky Blue. What I’m sharing widelyScientists and Experts Endorse MDMA-Assisted Therapy for PTSD. Read and share this letter, undersigned by 20+ well-known scientists and clinicians, expressing their position that MDMA is now approvable for use with therapy in the treatment of PTSD, given suitable safeguards and post-approval monitoring. The science is compelling. Quote I’m pondering“If we have learned one thing from the history of invention and discovery, it is that, in the long run—and often in the short one—the most daring prophecies seem laughably conservative.” You can complement this edition of 5-Bullet Friday with my interview with Hugh Jackman, my blog post “How to Write a Bestselling Book This Year,” and the latest supercombo podcast episode, featuring writer/philosopher Derek Sivers and futurist/technologist Kevin Kelly. P.S. Deal of the Week — Momentous high-quality supplements!Momentous offers high-quality supplements and products across a broad spectrum of categories, and I’ve been testing their products for months while training and traveling. Lately, I have been pairing workouts with both their creatine and grass-fed whey protein. Not all creatine is created equal. In fact, a recent 2022 study compared 175 creatine supplements and demonstrated that ~88% contained creatine varieties with limited evidence of either effectiveness or safety. Furthermore, only 8% were third-party certified. I have full confidence in Momentous creatine because (1) Momentous uses Creapure® creatine, which has the strictest lab standards to ensure it’s at least 99.9% pure, and (2) it’s third-party (NSF and Informed Sport) certified. That’s quality you can trust. Click here to get 20% off all Momentous products, including my personal favorites. And not to worry, my non-US friends, Momentous ships internationally and has you covered. |
