While billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has his hands in a number of industries, including social media and electric vehicles, his space company SpaceX has completely transformed the commercial space industry. Its capsules now carry astronauts to the International Space Station, and the company is working with NASA to design a landing system to return humans to the Moon.

Last night, Musk interviewed former president and 2024 candidate Donald Trump on the social platform X, which Musk acquired two years ago. Trump had been banned from X (then known as Twitter) in 2021, and the former president returned to posting on the platform yesterday.

Musk’s endorsement of Trump for president in the 2024 election suggests he may hope to influence future space policy – and if Trump wins the election, he could appoint Musk an advisory role, notes space expert Svetla Ben-Itzhak. In her latest article, she breaks down Trump’s and Musk’s visions for the final frontier, as well as the policies they pushed for in the past.
