Hello hello,

If the world was right, some of us would today be in Brighton, watching music's great hope play in a stuffy back room – or more likely queuing outside to get in. The Great Escape festival is a big one in the music calendar. Not only does it kick off the UK's fezzie season but it's a chance to discover your new favourite band (while they perform to a room full of industry wankers). In the absence of this year's festival, we thought it only right to shine a light on a few of the emerging acts who should have been playing. There's loads more on this playlist, too.
