Volatility is the name of the game in crypto lately, with crypto values moving upwards across the board for the first half of this past week, before falling off again over the last couple of days. Though, as usual, the games just keep on going!

Hearing about ‘tap to earn’ isn’t as common as it was a couple of weeks ago. But Telegram is still hot, with new game launches and integrations announced on a regular basis. Gala Games even accepts Telegram logins on their ecosystem! Who knew that a messaging app with a clunky interface could become the darling of the web3 scene!

On the other hand, play to airdrop has stayed strong throughout the year, with this summer proving especially lucrative for those with the time and energy to participate in all of these play and earn opportunities. Illuvium scored big in a new partnership with Samsung, working out a deal to put all three of their games onto the Samsung Smart TVs! Samsung has already moved into web3 with their own NFT collection and they seem to be eager to adopt to the tech. It will be interesting to see how this works with Immutable Passport, or if they will have some other method of login. Either way, this is a big score for the Illuvium franchise and web3 in general!

Digital Identity - using blockchain to verify who you are 🧔

Using blockchain technology to create, maintain, and verify a digital identity is a hot topic these days, with ventures from Animoca Brands (MOCA ID and Realm ID), Privado (formerly Polygon ID), Immutable (Immutable Passport), and most recently, Icebreaker.

Former leaders from Google and Coinbase have joined forces to create Icebreaker, an alternative to LinkedIn that uses blockchain technology to verify credentials, provide verifiable endorsements, and create an open graph of reputation and identity. Pretty cool! And another example of blockchain technology being used effectively without the need for extra tokens or NFTs!

The Rise of Gaming Chains 🎮

Immutable zkEVM, GalaChain, Blast — just a couple of gaming focused blockchains that are live and building. Built as layer 2 chains (mostly), gaming-centric chains tend to focus on transaction speed, low gas fees (or no gas fees), and ease of onboarding for both players and developers. In particular, creating a seamless gaming experience for new players is often given high priority.

Well now we have a couple of new contenders. One is Uprising, a layer 2 built off of the Oasys chain who just held a mint for their limited (only 1,111 of them), Genesis NFT collection.

The other is Geist, a layer 3 chain being built by Aavegotchi, that will include a subscription model! Well that is certainly something different. We’ll have to keep an eye on this one and see how it plays out!
