The best to-do list apps help you get your life in order

Photo: Marki Williams

With fall just around the corner, you might notice a sudden influx of things to keep track of: doctor’s appointments, grocery lists, school project due dates, soccer game chaperone schedules—all the things that summer put on hold. And without a way to manage and organize all of these to-dos, it’s easy for things to start slipping through the cracks.

Our advice? Consider a to-do list app. The best ones do more than just throw all your tasks onto a screen. They’re also flexible enough to evolve with your changing workflows, integrate with your calendar, and allow you to collaborate real-time with others.

Our three favorite apps are a breeze to use and are thoughtfully designed, so you can hop in, jot down new tasks—then get right back to the doing.

One last thing (for paper loyalists): The best notebooks and notepads

Photo: Michael Hession

If you simply can’t resist the satisfaction of checking something off a physical to-do list, we understand. To find the best notebooks, we spent weeks writing zealously in 34 different ones. And we came away with 11 favorites that provide an appreciably better writing experience than what you can get from a generic, off-the-shelf-at-the-drugstore notebook.

No bleeding or feathering here→

Jot that down.
