The New York Times - Ditch your flimsy hangers

We’ve recommended these sturdy ones for almost a decade

The Recommendation

“Wirecutter has recommended these hangers for almost 10 years. Now I understand why.”

Before senior video editor Lisa Fischer got Wirecutter’s top pick, hangers were an afterthought for her. She’d collected a mish-mash of cheap plastic and wire ones left over from trips to the dry cleaner. They bent and broke easily, and eventually, enough of them would fail that she’d have to pick up a new pack of random hangers from a department store at least once a year.

“Upgrading from my previous hangers to our top pick felt like metaphorically graduating from a dorm room to a real apartment,” she writes. They’re made of a sleek wood, are lightweight, well constructed, and affordably priced. Plus? They’ve become her secret weapon for keeping her closet organized—thanks to notches that keep slippy straps in place and loops that allow the hangers to stack.

After methodically testing dozens of hangers over several months and using them in our homes for nearly a decade, we have four recommendations—including a flocked hanger and an ultra-thin, space-saving one.

One last thing: “I’ve walked thousands of steps in these cooling shorts—and never gotten chub rub once”

You may be familiar with the painful, angry chafing that erupts when sweaty inner thighs rub together. While any pair of bike shorts can prevent your thighs from directly touching, special cooling fabric is crucial to avoid what staff writer Samantha Schoech calls “you know, overall swampiness.”

Sam swears by these thin, breathable nylon-blend undershorts, which are lightweight, stretchy, designed specifically for cooling, and come in an extensive range of sizes and lengths.
